Discussion: Obama Directs Investigation Into Possible Russian Election Hacking

Trump: I hope Russia hacked this election. I wanted them to. I will quash this investigation. We should be paying Russia for the work they did. And the FBI.
FOX: We prefer Putin over ISIS. White dictators know how to lead.

I’m down with that!!! Let’s take it 2 steps further stop all procedure until all investigations are conclude (and that include the FBI).

Works for me – good idea.

President Trump will. Don’t believe me? Just ask him.

Totally agree.

Or possibly just people taking note that in a handful of key states, mostly under Republican control, we keep seeing precincts with vote totals that were higher than the total number who voted, rural counties going for Trump with 90+ percent turnout and state polling that was generally accurate in the other states but seriously out of whack there.

Actual facts. The idea that we should reject one very troubling hypothesis out of hand, even though it explains all observed anomalies, because reasons, harrumph harrumph, rather than, you know, investigating it is not one every reasonable person is compelled to share. No matter how many ā€œharrumphsā€ and derisive snorts you add.

Exactly. To point to just one example, the sworn affidavit of Harri Hursi:

Hursti is a Finnish expert on the hacking of electronic voting machines
and co-author of the EVEREST report, commissioned by former Ohio Sec.
State Brunner.

Precisely. Even if the poster is an IT expert - which I kinda doubt - that is NOT what the consensus of the election security experts contends:

I think Russia has had a big stake in trump enterprises for quite awhile now. The oil oligarchs before Putin jailed them etc., were buying up a lot of NY real real estate the last several years.

As usual, follow the money.

You are simply wrong on so many levels:

That methinks you begin to protest too much. Your own Pres.-Elect claimed the election would be rigged - was he lying then, or is he lying now? Which is it?

Are you kidding? Please tell me you are kidding.

ā€œthere is not a shred of evidence supporting that belief.ā€

I am going to call this statement out for what it is - that would be a lie.

Only a little. Look, if we came up with undeniable proof of interference and/or rigging, would you want to proceed with the new administration? I wouldn’t. If the investigation were to show that, I’d say halt everything and let’s start over.

I don’t want this admin either, but, marshal law? C’mon. I’m for having a re-do but it’ll. never. happen.

If tampering were to be proved, what would you suggest?

ETA: I am not expecting anything to halt a Trump administration; however, I would like to know what President Obama knows. And I suspect he knows a bunch that Trump would not like leaked.

Another thing: Something obviously precipitated this move. It’s been a month since the election. I have to think the security forces have been investigating since they first heard of the leaks, and almost certainly long before that. I strongly suspect they’ve had a quiet eye on Trump for years. I assume the administration had its fingers crossed that he’d lose, and held on to a slimmer hope after he won that he’d try to govern in a reasonable way. But now they’re doing this. Why? Did new information come in? Did concern boil over? One thing, I always figured the administration was working behind the scenes on some of the really funky stuff we suspect. Obama’s not a surly, truculent person—he’d have never been elected if he were—but he’s not naive and he’s no pushover. This is a major, major move here IMHO.

Why in the world do you think I am a Trump supporter? I am totally freaked out by the incoming administration. Just because I am upset with the election results does not mean I should buy into absurd conspiracy theories.

NEWS STORY: Bipartisan congressional committee releases report with overwhelming evidence that Russian hackers actively worked to sway the election in Trump’s favor.

Trump tweets:ā€œDishonest media and sore loser Crooked Hillary are trying to blame my overwhelming victory on Russian hackers - SAD!ā€

Story dies. As has been noted multiple times in multiple threads on this website, facts simply do not matter to the forces that are currently consolidating power in our country. We are using paleolithic brains and an 18th century political process (witness the electoral college) to combat 21st century technology and propaganda techniques - quite honestly, we don’t stand a chance. We can blame everything and everyone for this horrible election loss, but you did not have to read TPM or watch Rachel Maddow to know that Trump was a despicable narcissist unfit to serve. He has spent the last 40 years proving it beyond a shadow of a doubt in a very public way. And with all of that on the line, half of the people did not bother to vote, and almost half of the ones that did bother voted for him. The coup is almost complete and I do not think our corrupted journalistic institutions and anachronistic political institutions have the power to drag us back.

Just like climate change, the tipping point is in the rearview mirror.

With respect, I don’t think anyone’s asking you to believe what you don’t believe. They’re simply saying you might not want to say a thing is impossible when it’s more like improbable, or to say that no direct evidence for a thing means it doesn’t exist. We didn’t have direct evidence of Pluto existing before 1930, but Pluto was there regardless.
