Were President Obama to discover that Russia hacked and directly rigged the outcomes in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, and Florida, and were he to provide impeccable, unambiguous and indisputable evidence to support this, everyone on the Right would assume that he was lying.
Itâs where we are now.
I thought there was already credible evidence of interference â why not release that info now? Also, why NOT release the findings of this new investigation immediately after Obamaâs been briefed on what has been discovered? Seriously, President Obama â many of us have questions, many of us donât trust the November outcome. Peace of mind means a lot.
If so, then I say call marshal law, cancel the results of the election and hold a new one in a few months.
ETA: Oops. Make that âmartialâ law â not âmarshalâ law. LOL Thanks, @thunderclapnewman!
Itâs not just the voting machines, itâs the fake news sites and message board posts and all the other manipulations. They donât have to hack the machines. They hack the voters. Germany is up next.

And Joe Biden pinch hits for HRC.
Now can we please cut Lindsay some slack? I donât agree with a lot of his policy positions but heâs been around a long time and knows a lot from that experience. He never got on the trump train and called trump out from the very beginning. And if Joe Biden gets along with him, thatâs good enough for me.
Letâs be nice and give him a chance.
The investigation is on Russian hacking to influence the election, not that they hacked the machines, which is just highly unlikely. What the Russians did was hacking all related to trashing the Democrats. They never hacked Trumps taxes, or any Republican emails. It was purely done one way, hence the word âinfluenceâ. The investigation is not for âriggingâ. And frankly any rigging is usually done through voter suppression right here in the US.
Unfortunately/fortunately Presidents donât have spelled-out powers to do special emergency stuff like that. At various junctures in history they just went ahead anyway and suspended habeas corpus, interned Japanese or whatever. But if the investigation shows the actual results were hacked, I think Trump would have to resign. If the country knew he werenât elected legitimately I donât see what else could happen.
And Iâm not sure this is really an investigation. It may be a move to reveal information already known but considered too explosive to risk revealing before it became apparent that Trump is going to be an extinction-event-level disaster for the republic. This strikes me as a Big Fucking Deal, folks.
This is some complex stuff and I am in no way a constitutional lawyer, not even close, but I have fun ideas!
It would be cool if Joe Biden could be interim POTUS while all this gets sorted out if it came to that.
I hope youâre right about it being a Big Fucking Deal because I think the Russian interference has been a big fucking deal. ITâs been about the biggest fucking deal Iâve seen in my life happen here.
I still cannot believe this is America. Everything I look at anymore looks like it belongs to Putin.
People who think that the voting machines were hacked sound a lot like Fox News watching Republicans who choose to believe false narratives because they fit their world view. Please donât do that.
The vote tally was legit, to believe otherwise is to live in a fake reality. It is the effort to influence the election before the vote that is being investigated.
So far as you and I know.
Iâm not nearly so sanguine that there wasnât any rigging. Iâve talked to IT people who tell me it is ridiculously easy to hack voting machines and rig them in ways that are very hard to detect.
And please donât tell me what to believe and what not to. Youâre sure, Iâm not.
They wouldnât all be on the right, strictly speaking. Greenwald, just for example, is probably already preparing scorn-dripping rejoinder.
I understand what youâre saying. I donât believe Putin or the Russians actually hacked all those machines â thatâs why I said âinterference.â I fully believe Putin, WikiLeak Scum did interfere. To what degree, Iâd like to know. I also think it is highly likely that Putin had help here in the States â if not Trump himself (but I would like to know much more about the server in Trump Tower that only received calls to link up from Russia, during the campaign and was disconnected once folks started asking about it, but then their new ID was also linked up solely by Russian calls), then Manafort, etc. Direct hacking, I doubt. Strong interference, yes.
This story and his conflicts of interest. These are the stories the MSM needs to hone in on.
This is how Big Orange will fall.
I wish he (and Republicans in the senate) would also commission a study of the âwidespread voter fraudâ with an agreement to accept the results of the study and come down hard on anybody that doesnât.
I occasionally stipulate here that I certainly donât have the knowledge of or instinct for politics that many other members of the community here do. But I know a bit about communication that Iâve picked up here and there and Iâm pretty good at spinning out scenarios. That said, it looks to me like actually hacking the machines, central computing systems etc. is the least likely scenario but by no means impossible. The second and far more likely scenario is the hacking and leaking of e-mails and so forth was done with collusion from the Trump camp, possibly with some quid pro quo arranged. Again, this is far more explosive than what we already know to have happened. And to me the third, most likely scenario is that weâre going to see a fuller revelation of exactly whatâs known about the hacking in an attempt to undercut and delegitimize this ugly, frightening burgeoning administration as revealed through the transition so far. Obamaâs that alarmed, and is playing this card.
That right there is the problem in our country. We arenât nearly as divided politically as we think. We are, though, divided in our perceptions of reality. People hold views not based on facts but on what they want to believe. As Obama said recently, if he watched Fox New he wouldnât vote for himself, either.
If you want to believe that the voting machines were tampered with because it makes you feel better, realize that there is not a shred of evidence supporting that belief. And as election experts have long said, such rigging across multiple states would be virtually impossible to pull off. You are just as out there in la-la land as the folks who think that Sharia Law is on the verge of becoming the law of the land.
