Discussion for article #230072
I guess it doesn’t matter that he was also the architect of Romney care. I hate these fuckers. I just hope he doesn’t apologize. The truth hurts
ALL insurance works the same way. I have paid car insurance for decades and used it once for a bumper. Waaahh, why should I pay for others accidents, I could say, but I understand that good drivers pay for bad and healthy people pay for the sick, but the healthy won’t always have that health.
the young pay for the old in SS but the young will also be old
why is this even a thing?
Man, the lack of self-awareness from Gruber is frustrating. Even if he believes this stuff, he should know better than to spout it in public.
Why do liberal suffer for their words, yet conservatives don’t. Fuck them. He’s telling the truth.
Jonathan Who?
Me too, because at 58, I have never caused an accident, and yet I pay more all of the time for those that do. It is the same with home insurance. I especially loved it, when thanks to the Bush crash, I lost tens of thousands in value in the house that I have paid off, and yet my home owners insurance went way up, although other than one claim for hail damage to my roof over a decade ago, I have never had any other claims.
Being a member of the White Male dominated power structure has its obvious drawbacks.Like the inability to censor oneself.
To be fair, most voters are idiots. So are most people, you can fool most of the people most of the time because they want to believe something. It is how the GOP exists.
And what part of “voters are stupid” does the GOP dispute?
There’s a reason the guy is in academia, not politics. So, let the GOP hold hearings because their feelings are hurt and they want to use his impolitic comments as a lynch pin to keep frothing at the mouth about repealing Obamacare without presenting any viable alternative. With any luck that will keep them busy for the next two years and they will have less time and energy to spend on more destructive things that might actually get some real traction, like screwing up Medicare “to save it for future generations” or bringing back the chained CPI for Social Security. All that is standing between us and a lot of that bad stuff is Obama and his veto pen. That does not inspire me with total confidence.
Conservatives do not suffer for their words because those who should support liberal policies— the young, women, minorities, populations that should be concerned with immigration, do not get off their collective asses and vote.
Stupid people don’t like being called stupid. So that will resonate with American voters.
His comments bolster Republicans claims that this was some sort of secret backroom deal even though it wasn’t.
Issa will have something to move on to because Benghazi isn’t getting much traction.
What was troubling was something he purportedly said about if state exchanges not being set up they wouldn’t be eligible for the credit, which is what will be argued in the Supreme Court. If true, that would be very damaging for the law since before it’s more of a he said/she said. Now it’s’ coming out of the mouth of one of the architects of the law.
“In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Gruber apologized, saying he had been “speaking off the cuff.””–NPR
I recall a study showing people who watch Fox News have low IQs or lowered IQs. GOP sometimes the truth hurts.
Damn
I thought the Stupid would be proud to have their stupiditay acknowleged.
What a jackass this guy is. I’m sorry, but I can’t help concluding that only an a-hole would speak in front of an audience and blatantly characterize American voters as stupid.
Taxes, shmaxes. It doesn’t matter what the form of payments are called. What he’s describing is the basic concept of insurance – that’s how insurance works, for the love of God. Why couldn’t he just say that??
Healthy people pay premiums that go toward paying claims of sick people. People who own non-burning homes pay premiums that go toward paying claims of people with burning homes. Calculating risk across a “pool” of insured, hedging against loss – insurance has worked this way since it was invented thousands of years ago.
Thanks a lot, Gruber, you ass.
“… it was never actually articulated that healthy people would pay into the system to help cover sick people.”
Well, no shit. That’s how all insurance works.
I would recommend to these Republicans that they all contact their auto insurance company and demand a refund if they’ve never had an accident, on the grounds that accident-free drivers shouldn’t subsidize people who have an accident.
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! You mean health insurance works by having people who aren’t sick pay for the coverage of moocher sick people? IT’S SOSHULISM!!! Next thing you know, they’ll make me pay for car insurance that ends up just paying people who have accidents and home owner’s insurance even though nothing bad happens to my house!!!
Oh the awful tyranny!!!
Gruber made the most egregious mistake someone can make in modern American politics: he told the truth.
