Drumpf’s administration is already one of the most corrupt in US history. As of January 21st, it will be the most corrupt. Grant’s and Harding’s administrations will seem like models of honesty and probity by comparison.
Trump is going to separate himself from his businesses by giving day-to-day control of their operations to his sons. His sons are two members of a sixteen person transition executive committee charged with, among other things, finding people to run the government and make decisions that will directly affect the fortunes of Trump’s businesses.
Sounds legit. I think I know roughly sixty million people that will be just fine with that.
It will be interesting to see if the Democrats rail against the most corrupt President in our history half as much as the Republicans railed against one of the most honest and principled.
Drumpf
We get it.
Literally name calling, for whatever reason, makes me take you less seriously. It’s style over substance, like a 6th grader.
If this report is true, it means that Ivanka will be a close advisor to the POS PEOTUS.
Nothing short of complete liquidation to unrelated third parties should be acceptable. Presidency or your business - pick one.
And even then, I’m not sure how you counteract the incentive that certain buyers might have to overpay and make themselves known in an effort to curry favor.
POS PEOTUS always pushes until someone or something pushes back. Hello Congress, hey SCOTUS, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you - I hope you are watching.
It’s his name! Get over it.
Didn’t this orange-faced liar just say he sold all his shares? Thanks, Goobers! Your ignorance of America and basic civics is gonna cost us all.
The family name is actually Drumpf, first of all. They anglicized it. Second of all, if you want to require everyone here not to call the SOB names you have your work cut out for you. I can assure you people here are quite serious and should be taken that way whether they call him names or not. You know one thing that makes people take you seriously? Being focused on what’s important and not getting sidetracked with trivial stuff. Just sayin’.
The Trumps are exploring what was described by one person briefed on the discussions as a “legal structure” that would give Mr. Trump and his daughter separation from the company."
Actually, it’s not so much a “legal structure” as it is a building structure. Trump and Ivanka will share the Oval Office (and perhaps the same chair) - and Jr. and Eric will have desks in the what used to be the Roosevelt Room - now renamed the Trump Organization Executive Headquarters Room…
This will be a blind trust except that no aspect of it will be blind or even partially obscured to any degree whatsoever, it will not be any Trust and he will retain unfettered discretion to direct his sons on every move that they must make. The great unwashed will celebrate his act of “Courage.” The feds under Sessions will not raise a peep of course peep but I wonder if there is a place in this for some advocacy group to file suit if they can demonstrate standing. Emoluments Clause.
Instead of a blind trust, it’s a “I can’t see you, I’ve got my hands over my eyes!” trust.
Golly, what could be wrong with that?
The NYT is wasting its time reporting this as if it means anything. He’s already been grifting globally, he’s made not the slightest real effort to avoid even the appearance of scaling it up to Putinesque levels, and even if what he was saying about rein-handing and so forth were in any way true, it wouldn’t make a damn bit of difference to the grift. The challenge for the decent half of society is to be shocked, stay shocked, and do something about it.
Not in his business, only stocks in other companies. Most of his companies are, by and large, private companies and pubic stock to buy and sell doesn’t exist.
But the problem comes that even selling/giving his ownership of the Trump companies to his sons does absolutely nothing to remove the conflicts of interests, because of the nature of his businesses. They are high profile physical assets and name branding. He knows, and everyone else in the world knows, what and where they are. Not to mention that bribing the princes puts money into the collective family coffer and thus achieves the same end as bribing Trump himself.
All of this is compounded by their current roles in the transition team…literally picking the people who will make policy the directly effects them, and what will inevitably be their on-going roles after he takes office. Less we forget, as we are so prone to doing with Trump, his son has already violated the Logan Act by meeting and negotiating with Russia over Syria months before Trump was elected.
And Trump will most assuredly be in violation of the Constitution on 1/21 because of the DC hotel. No ifs.ands or buts, as well as being in violation of his lease…which specifically precludes him from leasing the hotel and being in government at the same time.
So who can take action on this - would anyone in Congress? Could a suit be brought on violations of the Emoluments Clause?
And I sense we’ll have Ivanka in the WH as “First Lady” and Melania’s staying in NYC w/Barron!
No, it’s churlish baby stuff. Grow up!
Congress could definitely push him on the Emoluments Clause, all the way up to and including impeachment. But I think its kind of doubtful they will until he starts pushing back hard on their agenda. Any Democrat in the House could submit papers of impeachment, but without a majority in the House, and without Ryan letting it to the floor, it would be just a symbolic move.
I am not sure what recourse anyone else would have, seeing as how papers of impeachment have to start in the House, not in a Court of Law.
And yeah, the Ivanka being essentially the First Lady just raises the creep factor on the whole Trump wanting to screw his daughter thing to even higher levels. But you’re right…for all practical purposes, she probably will be.

[/quote]Trump probably thinks that since Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy, and Reagan put their name branding on all those schools and airports - with huge profits to themselves - it’s perfectly OK for him to keep doing it with hotels, resorts, and golf courses (and if those other presidents didn’t make money off the deal, then they were terrible businessmen, losers, sad).
Worse, it’s boring. Using “Drumpt” signals you disapprove…it’s meaningless, like a child repeating something for attention, without thinking.
Something bad is happening in America. Get serious. Name calling is silly.
