Discussion: NYT Reporter Glenn Thrush Taken Off WH Beat After Misconduct Allegations

But why drop him from the WH beat? Letā€™s keep all the predators (a-holes) in the same place to better keep an eye on them.

ā€œHe will receive training designed to improve his workplace conduct,ā€ Baquet said. ā€œIn addition, Glenn is undergoing counseling and substance abuse rehabilitation on his own. We will reinstate him as a reporter on a new beat upon his return.ā€

I think this is a very fair decision. Iā€™m guessing a lot of men have made the mistake, especially while drinking, of trying to kiss someone they thought was interested in them who really, really wasnā€™t. There needs to be consequences and accountability, but it should fit the nature of the accusation. Not everyone needs to lose their job and be permanently ostracized.

OK, now we know what ā€˜zero toleranceā€™ means at the NYT.

" Glenn Thrush, who four women accused in November of sexual misconduct, will return to work at the company but will no longer serve as part of its team covering the White House."

WHOM, not who.

Is there a copy editor in the house?

So how did the story end up? I got side-tracked by the spitting on the ground at the words ā€œDean Baquet.ā€

Iā€™m not looking for zero tolerance. Zero tolerance cost us a decent senator who I still very much question whether heā€™s guilty of what heā€™s accused of doing. I donā€™t think someone should lose their job for telling a dirty joke or for hitting on a colleague after hours. I think an investigation should be launched and depending on that investigation the accused should be treated accordingly. Thatā€™s going to vary from situation to situation.

We donā€™t know that he wasnā€™t!

Seems like a proportionate response.

Yesā€¦that changes everything. I was lost without your correction.

Since the 80ā€™s Zero Tolerance has given us overreaching in schools. Such as suspending kids for nail clippers when the focus should be on deadly weapons.

Seems like a natural fit.

Was he one of the reporters in the WH Press Room? The NYT did him a favor. Sarahā€™s press conferences are exercises in absurdity and prevarication. The fourth estate should boycott and actually do some real investigative journalism. Regurgitating press releases is lazy.

He freaking resigned himself. Forget about ā€œhe was pressured;ā€ it is meaningless, as in, Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump, Roy Moore.

Got it?

And how many womenā€™s careers have we lost because of ā€œletting boys be boys?ā€

Women go to considerable lengths to avoid sexual predation from men every single day; whatā€™s the cost to them of having anything other than zero tolerance? Do you care?

Yeah, I did not think so.

You need to take a deep breath, because youā€™re out of control. Holy crap.

You want to burn it all down.
