You know who don’t care? Honey badger Vladimir Putin don’t care.
Couldn’t we merely start every story about a Trump appointee with the headline:
(Insert name here) did not realize exactly what the position of (insert cabinet post/agency/ambassadorship here) entailed when he/she accepted Donald Trump’s offer to lead the department.
Probably not a good time to ask if anyone’s seen Command and Control yet. Or read the Eric Schlosser book it was based on.
Heh.
I lived in Texas for 2 years and came to realize the governors job was basically to kiss babies.
The consequences of this election become clearer with every passing day. It is likely we will soon no longer have passing days.
And of course the consequences will be Obama’s fault for hiring a Nobel prize winning atomic physicist and succeed him with a nuclear physicist who was very knowledgeable regarding bomb physics.
Weil’s Law: First-rate people hire first-rate people. Second-rate people hire third-rate people.
Doesn’t even allow for fourth-rate people doing the hiring.
…and to make appointments. That’s his skill set. He loves to schmooze and (watch out PE) to make deals.
I guess it was pretty difficult for the Rickster to google “Department of Energy” to see what it does. Maybe he can’t read.
The thing is, Perry doesn’t even understand the oil and gas industry. He went to A&M, which has some of the best geology and petroleum engineering programs in the world, but on the Agriculture side, not Mining.* He was the Agriculture Commissioner before he became Lt. Gov. and then Gov. He understands that oil & gas makes a lot of money and that it is important to politics in Texas, so he learned how to lobby for and cater to the industry, but is clueless about anything technical. He’s an idiot pretty boy, which is OK for lobbying but not for actually accomplishing anything.
- Yes, Aggies, A&M is a full university and a very good school, not just for agriculture and mining, The vet school is one of the best in the country. I’m just trying to make a point.
"It’s been a learning curve.”
Yes, that’s what happens when you have a bachelor’s degree in animal science and you’re following guys with advanced degrees in physics.
It will turn out Chris Christie’s wife is the smartest hammer in the bag.
Why isn’t “maintaining nuclear weapons” under the DoD instead of the DoE?
…and sign death warrants. Rick Perry did that some 200 times.
Imagine how confused he would be if they asked him about “breeder reactors.”
Oh, but “breeding” is something he understands! You pick the right bull or stallion, and match him with the right cow or mare to get the qualities you want, collect the semen, inseminate the cow/mare, and 283/330-370 days later get a calf/foal. That’s the same thing, right?
and forget not the defence against a “Jade Helm” style coup…
NYT: Perry Didn’t Fully Understand Role Of Energy Secretary At First
…
Well no shit. (shakes head)
As I have posted since Perry was announced this guy is clueless utterly clueless about the DOE.
He thought it was just drilling the Permian basin at Midland-Odessa. I get chills like when I had malaria when I think of Rick Perry in charge of a nuclear stockpile. Folks, there are huge amounts of very nasty stuff at out nuke plants. Diablo Canyon sits on an earth quake fault near (in nuke terms) 20 million people.
edit
Inside the outer ring would be a no-go zone:
To be fair, it was pointed out later in the segment that there are a number of staff positions that are not (currently) political appointees. I think I remember hearing that 40% will remain after noon tomorrow.
The visions of empty office buildings are somewhat overblown.
There are certainly going to be problems due to the lack of preparation by team peepee (color me surprised), but DC won’t be a ghost town; there will be some (minimal) level of continuity.
Frankly, we’re probably better off the longer they delay…
Morons from the top on down. How reassuring.
