Is the implication, that he does understand the role now ? I think not !
The list of things Perry fully understands is very short. And most of them have to do with hair care and hair care products.
It’s times like this that I truly miss Molly Ivins who always referred to Perry as Governor Good Hair.
Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States, please pay attention.
And of course the classic
Being slightly paranoid is like being slightly pregnant - it tends to get worse.
Molly Ivins
Oh for fucks sake.
This guy knows shit yet gets to be in charge of a department he has no clue about…??
How the hell are we going to get through these next 4 years?
Governor Oops is a poster boy for Stupid Republicans.
This whole outhouse is going to go up in flames very soon.
Try to not get burned, folks.
I might have been willing to give Perry the benefit of the doubt for a couple of milliseconds, BUT what the hell did he think they did in the Pantex plant up there in the Panhandle? And who funded it? Texas may be a big place, but FFS the governor ought to have a clue…oh, never mind.
Wow. How many examples do we need to know that this man is just plain stupid? Good job, Texas!
Thanks Texas for this moron gift to the nation.
Texas has always done its best to screw everyone.
Oh god. Let’s hope he’s hands off and the department can run itself.
Even Bush’s Energy Secretary was a chemical engineer from MIT. Ugh.
This is a guy who got a D in a class called “Meats” at Texas A&M. How do you nearly fail “Meats,” misidentify which part of the goat “pork” comes from?
This may seem counterintuitive, but Rick Perry might be the right guy for this job and for this administration. He is dumb, so he speaks dumb, which is important from a communications standpoint. Can you imagine a MIT scientist being able to converse with any of those clowns in the DT administration?
There is still also a little Democrat left in him (think of it as Luke seeing through the metal mask of Darth Vader to identify a trace of Anakin). After all, Perry lost the 2012 primaries when he unwittingly (and quite viscerally) questioned whether GOP voters who wanted to expel all undocumented immigrants from the country ‘had a heart’. In a sense, Rick Perry unwittingly laid the ground work for Obama’s victory because he correctly (without really knowing it) labeled GOP candidates who pandered to the extreme wing of GOP voters as uncaring and heartless. It fit Romney to a tee when he pandered to the far right, because he was already a corporate person. So maybe in a weird way, Rick Perry might not want to blow up the earth or make it easier for others to do so and he might be able to convince the dumb people in the administration not to do dumb things, unwittingly of course.
You guys are so mean. This is a surprise? The guy can’t tie his own shoes
You don’t need to tie your shoes when you have Velcro. Anybody knows that.
Maybe he was adamant on calling pork “the other white meat”?
Oh, isn’t that cute? He’s talking about astrological energy on the snuff show. It’s the theme this week.
And there’s our democracy, working for the billionaires and bankers.
Wait, where do you see Perry talking about astrology?
Oops!!!
“Perry Didn’t Fully Understand…”
Shocking, huh?
This is very much in keeping with Trump’s overall misunderstanding of his own new job. He thought he was in a Miss Universe competition, and that being President involves riding around in limo’s and making personal appearances. And he thinks that the Secretary of Energy is a similar job, entailing doing a lot of promotion of the oil and gas industries. Viewed in that light, Perry would not be an unreasonable choice.
None of these clowns has figured out that these positions, from President, through Cabinet Secretaries, through other agency heads, and for a few levels down in the bureaucracy, require actual work and subject-matter knowledge.
Wait a second. Are you telling me that government does stuff? It does stuff that’s not just taking your money and making you fill out forms and bombing people in other countries? Where do the bombs come from?
I’ve said before that there’s a corollary to Josh’s Trump’s Razor theory - whomever he appoints to any position will be person most likely to be seen as the worst case scenario for the people who didn’t vote for him (and many who did).
Perry’s “oops” moment regarding the DOE made him a shoe-in, all other considerations aside.
