Discussion: NYT: Perry Didn't Fully Understand Role Of Energy Secretary At First

maybe smarter glasses would help… and bigger bottle of maple syrup…

That is a very generous headline. I think “fuller” might be an extra word.

It’s easier and faster to consider it this way: is there anything Rick Perry DOES understand?

This is a surprise? The guy can’t tie his own shoes.

I think it’s fair to say that Trump understood neither what the dept of energy does, nor what the governor of Texas does when he nominated Perry.

Trump thought this was an oil and gas job. Wrong. He thought Perry was an oil and gas guy. Wrong.

From Ernest Jeffrey Moniz American nuclear physicist
to Dancing with the Stars reject
We are in fact doomed.

and if you want to get really scared watch the Rachel Maddow segment (15 minutes but you can’t do it in a 1 minute sound bite) from last night documenting how the Trump transition has not filled many many extremely critical staff positions . The existing employees will be walking out Friday leaving…no one. Thank god there is one journalist not asleep at the wheel.

I doubt he could say anything accurate about nuclear fuel. I hope he gets asked specific questions about uranium isotopes and the like.
Imagine how confused he will be if they ask him about “breeder reactors”.

Well, Donald Trump did say he did not need daily intelligence briefings because he was “already smart.” And Donald Trump and his entire team (including Bannon, Kellyanne, and Rudy Nosferatu Giuliani) were surprised to find out, during their first trip to meet President Obama at the WH, that they would have to hire an entire WH political staff. And Donald Trump actually said numerous times during the primary and presidential campaigns that certain adversaries didnt meet his “Presidential Look” test. Perry is actually probably more savvy than Donald Trump about any number of things, having actually held public office, albeit in Texas, albeit after a not very intelligent predecessor.

From the NYT article:

If approved by the Senate, he [Perry] will take over from a secretary, Ernest J. Moniz, who was chairman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology physics department and directed the linear accelerator at M.I.T.’s Laboratory for Nuclear Science. Before Mr. Moniz, the job belonged to Steven Chu, a physicist who won a Nobel Prize.

From the sublime to the ridiculous.

Let’s remember that Trump was looking for people who were especially dumb and deluded for his cabinet. His goal: to find people who were even dumber and more ignorant than he is. It was a tough job to accomplish given how low the bar was. Perry was a slam dunk.

Imagine how confused he will be if they ask him what day of the week it is and what he had for breakfast .
Have you noticed it’s big news if Trump appoints someone who is qualified and does not have the taint of scandal or corruption following them.
The exception indeed

GOP: We don’t need to understand anything about any piece of govt. We just want to kill it all. We do it by hiring and voting for the most incompetent people and making sure they screw it up. Dubya was perfect.

Excerpt:
If I had to guess, however, I’d say that the failure to get his administration up and running on time isn’t a deliberate choice by Trump; he just has no idea what he’s doing, and hasn’t surrounded himself with people well-equipped to translate his impulses and his campaign commitments into a full-fledged government. This isn’t exactly a surprise. Recall that the Trump Organization has never had a large bureaucracy and that his campaign didn’t staff up the way campaigns normally do, so he doesn’t really have any relevant management experience. And, of course, he’s never demonstrated any significant knowledge in how the government actually works. The results are likely to be damaging to his presidency, and to the nation.

Thank you! I was wondering when someone would finally say what the initial screw up was.
Trump is a moron----as is everyone running his transition. You’d have thought that they’d see
the MIT guy running the place now and the previous head–Chu winning a Nobel Prize and say to themselves
about Perry-----“What the fuck—which one of these people doesn’t belong”.

Well, a good thing to stress test your institutions, once in awhile… but the clean-up can be messy…

The one thing Drumpf knew was that he really liked Perry’s hair on Dancing with the Czars.

“He should’ve won,” he bellowed, “he should’ve won the Emmy. Not fair. Not fair. Rigged.”

As I said when his nomination was announced, the only job he’s qualified for is to be Secretary of Stupid.
