Maybe Iran should make American journalists register as “foreign agents”. Just for fun.
Anyone else read this expecting to find out that it was the U.S. State Dept. banning him and not Iran?
Looks like the the EU just gave Trump the middle finger.
Germany has announced that a payment system designed to get around U.S. sanctions on Iran will soon be ready.
On Monday, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said the new trade mechanism, known as the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges, or INSTEX, is almost finished. INSTEX was first announced back in January as a way to allow for some trade between Iran and Germany, France and the U.K. amid U.S. sanctions.
When the day the dollar is no longer the only alternative as a global currency, our interest rates are going to spike with our debt level.
Remember kids - it’s totally cool when the USA busts whistle-blowers, threatens publishers with imprisonment, and forces them to register as “foreign agents”.
But very, VERY bad for “Democracy” when other nations do the same.
GOOD AND JUST: “Americans have a right to know who is acting in the United States to influence the U.S. government or public on behalf of foreign principals,”
BAD : “Iranians have a right to know who is acting in the Iran to influence the Iranian or public on behalf of foreign principals,”
I don’t agree with what Iran has done. They would benefit far more from opening their country, which is frankly the most modern and civilized in that region, than by closing down further. However, considering the role US media played in the run up to the Iraq war, whether intentionally, or by playing the role of loudspeakers for the US govt, can anyone blame them if they want to reduce US media presence in their country?
Hey, you should read that Snopes article a very dishonest person mentioned a couple days ago. It actually says the complete opposite of what he insinuated it did if you bother to read the whole thing. Sierra Blanca was not even named on the bill Sanders voted for.
You should read it in case some other clown brings it up later.
Or the role the US played in making sure Saddam obtained chemical weapons and satellite intelligence on Iran’s troop positions in order to enable Iraq to target them with said chemical weapons during the Iraq-Iran war.
Iran knows they are being set up for a confrontation by the US, and are basically in bunker mode. They recently announced that they will resume uranium enrichment, possibly in an effort to mollify hardliners.
My hope is that cooler heads prevail, as the leaders who had championed the nuclear deal are now being undercut by the hardliners. They will need to show tremendous restraint to avoid further escalation.
I thought it might be the NYT barring him. But ok, yeah.
Yes. I remember people in the US still angry about the Khomeini Regime Hostage Crisis (a crisis deliberately prolonged by Ronald Reagan and his Campaign and Shadow Government in Waiting agreeing with the Khomeini Regime that there would be no good faith negotiations between the US and Iran for their release and that the hostages could not be released until Reagan was actually sworn in as President, so that Jimmy Carter could get absolutely no fucking credit for their release, and no one NOT A FUCKING ONE of the USA’s “Objective Media” giants, the CBS, or the NYT or the WaPo ever raised hell or even made a serious issue about this, another time that the GOP got away with Treason, because we were just so glad to get our hostages back) cheering on the fact that Iraq was deploying chemical weapons on the front against Iranian soldiers. Teenagers without bone spurs unfortunate enough to be sent to horrible deaths the like of which had not been seen since WW 1.
Thanks, and yes - the Sierra Blanc nonsense is just another sleazy lie recycled by HRC dead-enders still bent on trying to damage Bernie. Same old, same old.
The only reason Senator Sanders was ever involved is because the constitution requires Congress to approve interstate compacts. Texas Representative Joe Barton introduced such legislation in 1998, and twenty-three members of the Vermont, Texas and Maine congressional delegations cosponsored it.
The bill did not endorse a specific site — in fact, it did not mention Sierra Blanca at all. Nor did the bill override the local and state approval process. In the end, the Texas agency in charge of permitting ruled against the Sierra Blanca site, choosing another site in Texas instead. So, the process worked.
I really hate to have to bring this up again after doing so a few times in these past 6 years here. Reagan had nothing to do with the timing of their release. It’s a liberal myth that refuses to die. Check it out yourself and read the Algiers Accords.
I thought that Reagan BS about the hostages was true for many years also.
I think the first person who dispelled that myth for me was Will Bunch in his book “Tear Down This Myth: The Right-Wing Distortion of the Reagan Legacy.”
In other Press Freedom News…
Well, having read the book October Surprise, which was very well documented, I happen to disagree with you. And if it is all Liberal Myth as you say (Death to the Sectarian Revisionist Liberals and their Imperialist Running Dogs!!!) pray, tell why they were released immediately upon Reagan’s swearing in.
Yes I di . And it’s really disappointing how little trust we have left in our government.
Actually, the myth was started by conservatives who wanted to make Reagan seem so strong that the pathetic and weak Iranians were so frightened they released them right away.
Perpetuate it if you want.
I was alive at the time. I consumed the NYT and Newsday (which featured Murray Kempton and used to be pretty damn good for a Tabloid) and other newspapers from countries other than the US and was an informed citizen at the time. I read a book on the whole issue when it came out much more contemporaneously than six years ago. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.
The Iranian authorities have reportedly assured the Times correspondent that his credentials would be restored, but have not yet explained the rationale for the revocation.
Uh, he works for the New York Times, who have yet to issue a retraction for Judy Miller’s crapola ginning up cause for the invasion of Iraq resulting in the deaths of some 800,000 and the refugeeing of millions of others? This has been another instance of simple answers to simple questions.
Hey, Iran should ask the NYT for Maggie Haberman to replace him. She’s real good at sucking up to regime leaders.
