Wherein Caligula suggests to Tiberius that Macro be assigned the task of removing Sejanus.
My hope is those who leak tell us how off the wall Trump becomes when Comey goes public.
“(E.G. RUSSIAN MOB MONEY.)” Speaking of, have you seen this new Dutch documentary? http://www.rawstory.com/2017/05/watch-explosive-dutch-documentary-says-trump-has-deep-ties-to-russias-mafia-underworld/
To those of us who have been following the whole saga closely there is nothing all that new here. But it is pretty damn damning.
Now, that was TV!
Sejanus, our first glimpse of Patrick Stewart.
Methinks thou doth misunderestimate the power of Team DT and Fox News. As we were informed by the last GOP administration, you appear to be trapped “in what we call the reality-based community . . . when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors … and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”
Haven’t seen it but Josh has written extensively about these connections and the implications. It’s appeared in many other places too. But I think it’s all going to start coming together and making an impression.
Considering his private telling to Congress about the “new Hillary emails” in October and Chaffetz spilling the beans on that one, maybe he figures it’s best to get what he says on the public record rather than filtered through the Senate. The GOP would lie and the Dems would spin and we’d be no further along because the media bias towards the GOP, so lets hear it from the horse’s mouth.
Wait til you see the bells and whistles he’ll be wearing when he shows up! Mamma mia!
I can give you three million reasons to believe there are other media outlets than Fox and other citizens than Fox viewers. Probably more if you give me time. Of course Trump and Fox can spin stuff. But the record will be there for everyone who’s not in that bubble.
I agree with you here. I don’t think this is showboating. I think it is a very public CYA with the added benefit of dulling the Trump luster. Trump will react with his usual shit show, which may finally begin to erode support from even his most ardent fans. Comey is not only extremely smart, he thinks strategically and this may be his first step in a long game. I hope.
Comey may be on to a useful strategy for exposing Trump’s corruption. It’s possible that Comey will be more useful as a private citizen in making the public see the damage the Republicans have done and will continue to do if left unchecked.
Based on what? Hillary?
You can argue that he messed that up and you can make a pretty good one, too.
But, you know what? And this is something I get a lot of flack for on other boards for saying, but, first and foremost, I think you can lay that at the feet of Bill Clinton for meeting Lynch on the tarmac for a "chat about the grandkids.’
He never should have asked to meet with her and she never should have let him on her plane. They shouldn’t have been anywhere near one another until the investigation was complete.
Lynch had to recuse herself because of the appearance of impropriety because it was, in fact, improper.
No recusal and the decision of what to do about the new old emails falls to Lynch. And I think we all know that if it was her call there would have been no special notification to anyone eleven days out.
Change the Clinton’s and Lynch’s party affiliation to “R” and there’s no way a liberal of any persuasion buys the “Grandkids” line and we all know it, even if that’s all they talked about.
You can argue Comey made a mistake with Hillary, but there’s nothing to suggest he’s played Trump anything less than straight.
More like Godzilla vs Bambi.
Live TV provides a visceral connection to individual personal reality that can be damn near spin-proof as the age of the spinner best negative space illustrates.
And that is calling him out. Not a good position for the Reps because if they deny Comey a hearing it WILL look suspicious
Exactly. Accusing Comey of grandstanding b/c he is insisting on public testimony betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of why he would want that–which is, precisely, that he wants to insulate his story from being selectively and distortingly leaked. He is now a private citizen: there may be lots of secret material under which he is still embargoed, but he wants to avoid being Gowdy’d or Chaffetz’d.
Comey made mistakes with the Hillary letter, but he is absolutely on the side of the rule of law. See numerous IC-connected commenters on Twitter.
Or perhaps the public hearing first, to clear up Trump’s various lies about the dinner meeting (and subsequent assurances that Trump isn’t under investigation), followed by a private session with the committee, in which it will be clearly understood that everything the Senators are about to hear is confidential, and releasing any of it could be considered a criminal act.
Edit: I see great minds think alike, as a few other posters have suggested something along these lines, as well.
It’s actually Bambi Vs. Godzilla. My favorite film short. Saw it originally in 1970.
But I think we can trust Comey’s preening self-regard about his so-called probity, though. I don’t think, at this point, he’s going to do anything to uphold the obviously guilty of obstruction of justice Trump.
