Discussion: NYT: Comey Willing To Testify, But Only In Public Setting

The clash of an egotist with overly high self regard and a narcissist with no known boundaries or limits to his narcissism. Interesting? - I am guessing yes.

But a “close associate” of Comey’s told the Times he is willing to speak as long as he can do so in an open hearing.

Ooh, this is gonna be gooood.

OT birdford. Asking as one who might run afoul of moderators in the future, what did they find wrong with your post that you edited yesterday? TIA

You sure this doesn’t just mean that he stays way far away from sensitive material?

Which means he won’t say much about any Trump investigation, unlike his verbal diaherra over Hillary. He’ll be looking for a book deal worth big bucks.

Grandstanding showboater!!

I self censored because the moderator was asking for people to refrain from ad hominem attacks (which I generally try to do with my fellow posters) but there was a person who seemed to be doing some hard to justify praise of Donald Trump and I had added a line asking him if he also posted under the name John Miller. I decided that was a little ad hominem and against the spirit of what the moderator was asking.

Awesome. I “pray” this will happen.

Considering the stuff people get away with, I’m sure you were well on the side of caution. Yesterday was an awful day for the TPM version of trolling. Thanks for setting me straight.

Nailed it. TV worth watching.

Grandstanding showboats often have delusions of shadowy people stabbing them in the back as they slip into secret hearings.

OTOH, he could just be looking for more headlines.

I think Comey was genuinely taken aback by his firing (based on the reports he thought it was a joke) and Trump’s subsequent public statements about his assurances that Trump was not the subject, blah, blah, and he is anxious to address that particular subject and clarify what Trump requested as far as loyalty, etc. He doesn’t have to go into any investigation details to be interesting.

Thanks for reminding me, I regret.

I think having dinner with DJT would make me a little nauseous.

I think you and @ralph_vonholst both are on to something, and not necessarily mutually exclusive either. In this deal I could imagine juicy stuff that isn’t sensitive from a security standpoint. Plenty’s in the record that we just haven’t heard mentioned loudly. (E.G. RUSSIAN MOB MONEY.) And maybe there’s a third thing—Comey is reportedly very careful to document what happens when there could be controversy, and having 27 video cameras rolling while he talks certainly helps there. Can’t spin it, can’t lie about it, it’s right there. So I’m glad to hear this and will buy a good seat right up front.

Trump is clashing with himself?

I agree. He’s going to get his story out, live on TV.

And it’s going to ruin some people.

This may be far-fetched, but here I go… Is it possible that Comey wants to have a public hearing to address the items you mentioned, thereby polishing his image (to himself, at least) and then, after that, would be willing to testify to classified materials in a closed hearing? Maybe he wants to satisfy his ego before getting into the nitty gritty stuff. I imagine the committee would be willing to hear from him twice (at least!).
