Discussion: Not All GOP Lawmakers Pleased Trump Rolled Back Some Obama Cuba Policies

Wake me when some of them – any of them – actually start doing something to stop the stupidity. Talk is cheap.

Trump’s approach is aimed at halting the flow of U.S. cash to the country’s military while maintaining diplomatic relations.

Meanwhile, in Qatar DT has demolished any semblance of diplomacy while approving the sale of $12 billion of military weapons to a state he has accused of funding terrorism. Keep 'em guessing, the DT foreign policy analogue to trickle down economics.

What is done is done. To reverse himself would involve some form of self denial of his omnipotent ego. Again we see who is his own worst enemy trapped by his narcissist character disorder, in this case disguised as hatred of all things President Obama. For that matter he could keep his lips buttoned and let his lawyer minimize the Russian scandal fallout. But that would involve a character trait he will never have. I guarantee he will never be able to shut up and win.

So the reasonable and economic arguments against screwing up relations with Cuba will never be considered at all, at all.

Yup. Flake is my Jr. Senator. Voted for all of Julius Sleazer’s appointees, even DeVos and Pruitt. He’ll vote for the AHCA disaster that McConnell’s cooking up in secret, too. So will McCain. They will both say that they are concerned, or ‘troubled’. But at the same time, they’ll say that the “ACA is failing because … reasons,” and “We’ll work to make sure that everyone’s covered…” (until the bill is passed, then, bupkis). Always be very skeptical about whatever they say. Watch what they do.

American agriculture profits tremendously from freer world trade. They voted for Trump; they can lie in bed with him for the next four years.

@coimmigrant He’s also endorsed the lie that Saudi Arabia is a bulwark against terrorist financing, when its citizens (especially members of the royal family) are the largest contributors to terrorist groups.

It’s a two-fer for Trump – he’s racking up another reversal of Obama accomplishment and at the same time screwing over business opponents of his who stand to gain from opening hotels in Cuba. Those two things drive most things he does, it’s just not often he gets them both at the same time.

His supporters are either want their tax rates reduced, or they are complete morons, rejecting modernity and frequently racists boot! It is one or the other - anyone care to disagree?

I couldn’t agree more. Flake is one of a handful of senators who get in front of cameras to pretend to be reasonable and responsible legislators. Who are they kidding? As far as I’m concerned they are phony and they are liars…not much better than the present occupant of the Oval Office.

But but but… he really needed an excuse to have a rally and have people cheer for him!

I am sure just as soon as Jared negotiates the hotel deal, things will open back up with Cuba.

Sens. Flake and Sasse are auditioning for Presidential nomination when the fashion currently wallowed in by the Freedom Caucus and Ted Cruz passes.

Since this Congressperson, whoeverthefuck he is, has an “R” beside his name, and since his lips appear to be moving, it is safe to conclude he is lying.

Yes - one of the reasons “Cuba policy” is so “complicated” is that the trumpers don’t have any hotels or golf courses there - they don’t care about the exiles in Florida - they got the votes they needed in 2016 to win Florida. If Trump was into agri-business they would be handling Cuba completely differently. How many hijackers had Cuban citizenship on 9-11? Answer: not as many as Saudi Arabia - ie, none. But Trump is trying to show the world that he is in charge now, not Obama - we get it.

These GOPers are “troubled” in name only. It has become the go-to, conscience-placating word that they use to try to appeal to reasonable voters. Talk is cheap.

There is no practical reason behind the action. It’s just the usual right-wing “If Obama was for it, we’re against it” bullshit.

Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., said Trump’s new Cuba policy “will hurt the United States economically, making it harder for our nation’s farmers to access new markets and cutting the knees out from under our travel and manufacturing industries.”

What Emmer said is true, but then he and other Republicans who disagree should do something. This is hardly the first time Trump has instituted a policy that is not in the best interest of the people of the country. He said he would be a job creator, and the Cuba restrictions will cost jobs. The tourism business is already suffering because travel to the US by people from other countries has dropped precipitously. People don’t want to come here with Trump as president. There are lots of other places to spend their money.

Trump will not rest until he has undone as many of Obama’s policies as possible. He will never get over his childish envy of Obama, who is so much more popular.

Here we go again…Trump is screaming at the TV, isolated in the WH so he jumps on the plane, flies to an area that ‘likes’ him, signs yet ANOTHER executive order (hypocritical frauds!!!) to help a small group of supporters, they clap and cry and tell him how ‘wonderful’ he is…what a leader…and the rest of the country, both Republicans and Democrats are screwed over…and then he’ll do it again…
