What the actual fuck?
These are the same GOP who are likely co-conspirators with Trump!
Why does the story of the Farmer and the Viper come to mind?
Why do the Democrats always take the high road?
Good. Fact-finding should not be weaponized.
It had to be done, but that doesn’t make it easy to swallow. I do hope, however, that if the GOP misuses their privileges Nadler smacks them down with the metaphorical hammer of La Pelosi.
I painfully agree. What the Republicans did had to be stopped, and this is step towards re-establishing some kind of process. As long as Nadler et al are in control of the process, I think it will work out.
I don’t think there’s any bad news or grift or crimes that the Repubs were hiding that the Democrats are looking to hide from the public. By returning the process to a more bi-partisan page, doesn’t that give more credibility to the facts that will now be made public?
Fool me twice, deja vu…
I think Pelosi and others in the house are trying to be classy for lots of reasons, not the least of which is to take the air out of the third party yowl,” we’re tired of the petty partisan bickering.”
Seems so to me anyway.
Republicans aren’t getting Subpoena power on the committee. Nadler is just going to notify the GOP ranking member whenever he issues a subpoena 2 days in advance and if Collins objects, a committee vote will be held in which the Dems will easily prevail.
Nadler is restoring some strength to our wonderfully flawed self-government by this decision. Could go somewhere…I applaud.
They take the stupid road.
This is a better way to do things but I don’t think it was wise to give way so easily.
It might have been better to announce that the GOP policy of screwing the minority would remain in place for 2 years, then consider changing to a more equitable system. Choices – including those made by the GOP – should have consequences.
It’s like being bipartisan but just for show. If they object as their language to date suggests it will be a losing vote. If it’s a legitimate objection then the better argument would win.
The gop just doesn’t have better arguments so they will lose and subpoenas will be served.
Yes, that’s how I read it too. It’s actually kind of a stealthy move in some ways because if Republicans want to try to stop a subpoena they’ll if to do it publicly.
Unfortunately, all it will take is them quashing one Nunes crazy-time subpoena and they’ll be shrieking from the belfry of Faux Noise with heaps of hypocritical hyperbole about how this is an unheard of abuse of authority, blah, blah, blah.
Which is what would happen anyway…
Isn’t that “deja vu again”?
Because we believe in the process.
Oh, that’s so sweet!
