Discussion: News Bros: Why Are Chris Cuomo And Chuck Todd Beefing Over Jake Tapper?

Nothing is more fragile than the male ego. Being Chuck Todd probably intensifies the brittleness.

Poor Chuck Todd. The last one to know.

I’m not understanding the relevance of this at all. Slow news day??

All three could do a far better job as journalists, including Tapper, the best in the group. Todd and Cuomo are not worth one’s time. At a time when we need journalism, rather than rising to the occasion, they all sink to a common denominator. Frankly, it is disheartening to see them becoming irrelevant rather than rise to the occasion. I remember when I got my news by watching the networks, now none get my time. They have only themselves to blame. Laziness and complicity. Look at how they handled Barr’s letter, total incompetence. Not to mention the decades long destruction of Hillary Clinton because of their blinding misogyny.

Simplest answer, Cuomo like his gov brother has a big mouth. Plus he’s kind of a dick. Plus, he’s actually right. Tapper has more clout, certainly more political acumen beyond simple “horse race” analysis than Todd. The only caveat being that this is meant in a “one-eyed man in the land of the blind” sense.

I remember it too. I stopped watching network and cable news many years ago. I’ve lost track of how long it’s been. For FOX News it was shortly after the Iraq War started when they too were still pushing the WMD bullshit. For others,it was after the lousy coverage of the 2008 election.

Well, that’s precisely it. I want everyone who’s on TV or in print or wherever who purports to practice journalism to practice the best version of it they know how. That is, or should be, its own reward, no? Last I checked, the Peabodys aren’t given out to the biggest male on network television.

I mean, I read this in a Well-I’ll-just-glance-at-the-tabloids-while-the-clerk-deals-with-the-people-in-front-of-me kind of way, but none of this should matter until/unless ego and rivalries interfere with informing the public.

I’ve got no time for Cuomo. He’s just too over the top with his manufactured drama.

Chuck Todd comes in three flavors:

  1. Sunday Morning Chuck - pure bothsiderism at its worst
  2. Weekday Chuck - Meh, but nowhere near as bad as an Anderson Cooper or Wolf Blitzer
  3. BPR Chuck (he calls in to one of my local NPR shows, Boston Public Radio, some times) - a good guest with interesting insights.

Chuck #3 is clearly the worst as it shows he either self-edits or is just playing a role the other two times

In an odd way I need to watch it. When I just visit here or other blogs I feel like I am living in an alternate reality. I need to embrace the bullshit now and then or I am going to lose my mind.

Meanwhile, Mehdi Hasan laughs in scorn if he’s not too busy practicing real journalism to notice.

Idea for a parable: While Rome burns, three minstrels argue about who sings along best to the fiddle music.

I prefer Tuesdays when John King calls in. I get a lot more out of that than “I’m Obsessed” Todd.

As the World Turns today argued that Days of Our Lives was the most important serious dramatic art produced in our era, while All My Children insisted that no, Guiding Light deserved that title.

Or a bad joke. “Three journalists walk into a plutocratic neofascist meltdown…”
