Discussion: NBC Host To Sanders: Your Take On Superdelegates Is A Bit 'Hypocritical'

Bernie: I want the superdelegates to go against the wishes of the primary voters and appoint me as the candidate. That way I can get rid of superdelegates, who should not have the power to appoint the candidate against the wishes of the primary voters.

You couldn’t make it up.

I think it’s best for Warren to stay out of this kerfuffle and wait until after June 7th. That way, if she is the VP pick, she would be in the perfect position to court the Sanders supporters as she’d never have made any public statement against him and holds many of the same liberal views that can attract his supporters.

Right now, it’s just a waiting game but it would be great if someone just popped a binky in Bernie’s mouth so that he stops whining…

Don’t bet on it he said on his mtp interview that it was her job to win over his supporters

Some states specifically state if you were on a primary ballot then you are prohibited from running 3rd party.

No disagreement from me.

“You’re saying you want them to respect the vote in their state, then
at the same time, you say, ‘But oh, by the way, for those of you that
are a superdelegate in a state that Clinton won, why don’t you think
about the general election?’ It’s a little bit hypocritical to be on
both sides of those issues,” Todd said.

“No, no, no, that’s not what I’m saying,”

That’s exactly what he’s saying. This type of argument is not much different than Don the Con saying, “Maybe Hillary murdered Vince Foster, but I’m not talking about Vince Foster.”

Sanders’ hypocrisy is pervasive. Remember how he stumbled in that now infamous interview with the NY Daily News, when he could not say how he would break the big banks that he keeps railing against? Well, he had a similar debacle last week when asked on Univision about his take on the failure of socialism in Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela. Here’s the relevant part of the transcript:

UNIVISION

NOTICIERO UNIVISION: EDICION NOCTURNA

5/23/16

11:36:03 PM – 11:38:35 PM EST | 2 MIN 31 SEC

ARANTXA LOIZAGA, ANCHOR, UNIVISION: For Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, winning the California primary is vital in order to remain in the contest for the White House, because according to him, that could perhaps make the superdelegates that support Hillary Clinton change their minds and support him at the Democratic National Convention, which he warned tonight could be quite conflictive, according to the Senator. Our colleague León Krauze of Univision Los Angeles conversed with Sanders this afternoon…

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure that you know about this topic: various leftist governments, especially the populists, are in serious trouble in Latin America. The socialist model in Venezuela has the country near collapse. Argentina, also Brazil, how do you explain that failure?

BERNIE SANDERS: You are asking me questions…

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure you’re interested in that.

BERNIE SANDERS: I am very interested, but right now I’m running for President of the United States.

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: So you don’t have an opinion about the crisis in Venezuela?

BERNIE SANDERS: Of course I have an opinion, but as I said, I’m focused on my campaign.

Got that? He is proposing for America a system that has invariably failed wherever it’s been implemented, but he won’t comment on it because he is running for president precisely on a platform to implement the very same failed system!!!

That anyone is fascinated with this man is as baffling as anyone being fascinated with Trump!

Did Chunk ask if Bernie’s socialism could interest him in Trump’s GOP transformed Worker’s Party?

Do you wonder why TPM discussions have, to a large extent, turned against Bernie, when many (most?) of us started out as strong Bernie supporters.

Sometimes you can want something too much. Bernie is just about himself now.
He needs to go home…

Okay, is Bernie’s intent to confuse the super delegates that he’s trying to lure from Hillary? I don’t get it…he continues to speak out of both sides of his mouth…

Desperate people can be lured into doing irrational things…keep on being delusional Bernie!

Only two…Texas and North Carolina.

The bigger problem at this late date is the deadline for turning the appropriate signatures for getting on the ballot have already passed for a handful of states, are quickly about to pass for even more and by August will have passed for all of them.

It takes time and money…lots of both…to meet the varying requirements for signatures. Anybody that didn’t start that like 2 months go, isn’t going to achieve it.

And Bernie is broke. So out of time and money. A 3rd party run is out of the question at this point. He might be able to get on the Green Party ballot as a VP (I believe Jill Stein has even offered that), but that’s about the only way Bernie goes 3rd party.

No…Bernie’s plan is pretty clearly that now he is going to Philly, to create as much chaos and destruction as possible, constantly raising the bar on his demands until its…nominate Bernie or we won’t allow the convention to happen.

The states with Sore-Loser laws are:

Ohio - According to Sore-Loser laws in the state of Ohio, any candidate who has filed to be on a Party’s Primary ballot can’t run on a third-party ticket in the state. But independent or write-in is allowed.

Michigan - Passed its Sore-Loser law in 1955. The Sore-Loser law, sec. 168.695, says that when an individual has run in the primary of one party, he or she can’t be the General Election nominee of another party. Michigan finally put in statutory procedures for independent candidates in 1988, but the sore loser law was not altered, so it doesn’t apply to independent candidates.

Mississippi - According to Sore-Loser laws in the state of Mississippi, any candidate who has filed to be on a major Party’s Primary ballot can run on a third-party ticket but can’t run as an independent.

Texas - In order to be on the Ballot for the March 1st primary, you must file by Dec 14, 2015. If you are an independent candidate for the Nov, 2016 General, you must also file by Dec 14, 2015.

Texas has more detailed rules and regs so I’ve only included the relevant parts. In any case, even for states which don’t have specific sore loser laws, the deadlines for collecting needed signature and for filing are either rapidly approaching or have past. I haven’t heard anything about Bernie’s team starting to collect signatures in any jurisdictions but admit I haven’t been paying attention to him lately.

Just so he reads Nate Silver’s prediction about the CA primary before he turns to other tasks.

According to our latest polls-plus forecast, Hillary Clinton has a 97% chance of winning the California primary.

It’s disappointing how many people married to politicians or journalists get into the business of PR or campaign advisor.

It seems like a way to sell influence and skirt bribery charges.

I respectfully disagree, he is not doing anything against the rules. Unless the rule is Hillary must win. He has every right to make every argument in his favor to anyone who will listen. The SD votes are not locked till the convention vote. If anyone here thinks Trump will not use the email “scandal” 100 times worse than Bernie has they are living a fantasy. I agree he is keeping Hillary from fully engaging Trump but maybe he is also toughening her up for the fight. He certainly isn’t breaking any rules. IMHO
