Discussion for article #240227

Apparently the great war on Christianity only lasted for a holiday weekend.

I need to hear more, but it sounds like the wrong message: we caved to Huckabee, et al.

But has she agreed to issue a marriage license to everyone who requests one? If not, she will again do the same thing and end back in court on contempt charges.

Has Cruz had his photo op yet? It may not occur to him to pretend to be happy about this.

True, but I wonder if she caved or if the judge caved. If the judge caved, I hope he plans on throwing her ass back in the slammer if she continues refusing to comply with the law.

Neither the Louisville nor Lexington newspapers are reporting this as yet.

they probably need a fresh box of crayons first.

The critical part, not mentioned so far in the article, is that she is prohibited from interfering with the processing of same-sex marriage licenses.

Here’s the judge’s order:

Defendant Davis shall not interfere in any way, directly or indirectly, with the efforts of her deputy clerks to issue marriage licenses to all legally eligible couples. If Defendant Davis should interfere in any way with their issuance, that will be considered a violation of this Order and appropriate sanctions will be considered.

I highly doubt that she will comply with that any more than she complied with the underlying order.

Any bets on how long til she tries to fire the 5 deputies that are issuing the licenses?

If she doesn’t comply, then she’s right back in jail.

Indeed, and that’s pretty much what I expect to happen.

Sherlock1 - can you do a comparison photo of Kiimmy and Dick Cheney? I think you will find a facial similarity…

The Huckster and Sen. Li’l Texas Brownshirt ought to hold a joint press conference complaining about the outrage of this martyr being released before their respective pilgrimages. Is this not a violation of their First Amendment right to hold photo op?

Louisville’s Courier Journal just sent out an alert about 5 minutes ago. Basically, the judge said that since her office is now complying, she can be released. That said, I would not be one bit surprised if she pulls some new stunt for attention and tries to halt licenses from being approved.

They are ordering her not to interfere with the deputy clerks issuing licenses. If she does, its right back in the slammer for her.

My guess is the judge isn’t happy that she is getting to be a martyr, and he doesn’t want to extend it. But the optics are absolutely horrible. Huckabee and Cruz are going to be doing some serious chest pounding now.

Teabaggers have a lot of talk but the truth is that they are TERRIFIED of jail.

Everyone else is. The NYT just sent out an alert about it

Agreed! She’ll go back and order her minions NOT to issue licenses to any but a man and a woman. Then, she’ll get slapped back in jail. Why? A martyr is what she and her followers demand!
