Discussion: Nation Of Islam Leader Says They'll Provide Beyoncé Security If Police Won't

Discussion for article #246372

I once saw Louis Farrakhan in an airport surrounded by 6 of the biggest human beings I’ve ever seen. I think Beyonce would be safe if she took them up on this.

Some local police unions are still in shock over Beyoncé revealing that she is indeed black.

Staying with the white/black/hate theme Spike Lee endorsed Bernie about 4 hours ago.

"New York Sergeants Benevolent Association is not calling for a boycott of the singer, but said Beyoncé should “take greater responsibility in her divisive actions that further complicate relationships between communities of color and the members of law enforcement,” "

New York cops from the outer suburbs who have been doing all they can to act as an occupying force instead of a community safeguard are now talking about taking responsibility and avoiding divisiveness.

Clean your own fucking house.

Muslims to the rescue! I would certainly feel more secure with Nation of Islam than racist cops hoping for some black person to scare them into shooting them.

Why not? Worked out fine with the Hell’s Angels at Altamont.

Ouch.

Any officer or group of officers who refuse to do their duty and protect law-abiding American citizens should lose their job. When they refuse to do it because of things the law-abiding citizen thinks and says, they should be fired and then forced to read the First Amendment.

In this case, by being OK with Beyonce having no protection thanks to her opinion that there are issues with how we police in America just prove her point.

Nation of Islam is Muslim the way Mormons are Christians. There’s a commonality, but not much.

This situation has pissed me off to no end because it’s yet another example of Constitutional rights for white people and none for thee. Beyonce exercised her first amendment right to speech. She exercised that speech in a music video. Now, the state (law enforcement officers acting on behalf of the state) would like to seek redress against her by refusing to provide the security required to protect her AKA doing their fucking jobs.

Remember when Republicans ran around screaming about TSA officers (LEOs) molesting and assaulting them by simply doing pat downs AKA doing their jobs? But somehow they were required to continue doing their jobs. They weren’t allowed to refuse GOPers the ability to fly despite the truly despicable accusations leveled against them. It’s called doing your fucking job. These people, cops, are the biggest, whiny cry babies. Respect me, or I’ll take my toys and go go home! Oh, but still pay me.

The mormon analogy is very apt. In my experience of it, the Nation of Islam celebrates conservative clean-cut American values to the same, over-the-top degree the LDS Church does.

Union president Sgt. Danny Hale told the newspaper that while it’s not a proper boycott, there is a “pretty obvious” anti-police message in Beyoncé’s work.

Sort of like the anti-black message sent Tamir Rice's direction I suppose.

I recall hearing all manner of nasty shit about the Black Panthers while growing up in Oklahoma in the sixties. It was not until I returned from Vietnam and attended grad school in Berkeley that I saw the other side.

Oregon Public Broadcasting presented probably the best, maybe only, documentary of the Panthers earlier this month.

The Black Panthers, Vanguard of the Revolution by Stanley Nelson Click on the Picture…

I knew much of their history from the days of feeding kids and monitoring police activity in their Oakland neighborhoods. And I remember J. Edgar Hoover doing his best to subvert and destroy them by any means.

I saw nothing offensive in Beyonce’s show. She has a right to exercise her First Amendment rights as much as any American. It’s G’damned sad to see the same things happening in 2015 that brought the Panthers into existence.

I respect law and order and I respect the police. However as a large white/pink male I’ve never felt threatened by them nor did I need to have “the talk” with our children.

Point to the specific image in the Super Bowl halftime show that is offensive to cops (it doesn’t exist).

Now as far as the cops having their hands up in the video - the message of that is “please don’t shoot us.” So if that’s anti-cop, what is pro-cop? “Kill us?”

I take it the Hells Angels were unavailable?
