Who asked you?

Who asked you?

A rare bit of good news.
Unless you understand biting satire.
Every post Iâve written this morning has âfuckâ in it. It just comes naturally.
The voices in my head insisted.
This kind of reminds me of the comedian who was asked if any subject was hands-off for comedy. He said something like, âWell, maybe kids with cancer. Those little fuckers canât take a joke â itâs all, âOh, look at me, I have cancer over here.â Yeah, we get it already. So thatâs not a very fertile comedy ground.â
Context and intent matter.
Oh, yeah. I know.
Iâm having a real time not showering contempt on friends and acquaintances whoâve been suckered by this insanity. My father escaped from the Holocaust. So I canât help but think that those who are so gullible or selfish or whatever as to believe what Fox tells them are the very same people who went with the flow in Germany in the 30s. They arenât (for the most part) evil, but they are eaten up by a misdirected, boiling anger based on a lot of misinformation and a good bit of envy. They necessarily lack the courage or curiosity to challenge their own ignorance. They support things that surely at some level they know are deeply, deeply wrong, because it somehow serves a need inside of them to hate someone. It is disheartening to know that so many people are so weak in this fashion.
If you have not listened to Sam before, you might. He is truly one of the great progressives, well informed and pleasant to listen too.
If you do listen and you hear some clown making voices, just ignore that, its Michael and why Sam lets him try and turn the show into a morning zoo radio type program I have no idea.
no more internet snark without a MSNBC disclaimer explaining what snark is and how it is being used in context.
I remember studying the French Revolution and being appalled at how every step on the way, the ancien regime simply didnât see what was coming. They just kept thinking the way they always thought as they drifted toward the waterfall, oblivious until the end. Not every culture is that great at recognizing and dealing with change, or in thinking long-term about what they ought to do and then doing it. People. Most of 'em donât work up to potential, like they say in school.
Does anyone really have any remaining doubts that there is an active, right-wing campaign to dig into liberalsâ past comments and actions in an effort to capitalize on the current hysteria and weaponize anything remotely related to speech or conduct of a sexual nature, regardless of context or of innocence?
More like Lucy in the nuclear warhead factory.
I follow Sam and have found a lot of other writers/thinkers through his show. There was a LOT of traffic on progressive Twitter about this in the last few days.
The show is great and has been for years. Michael is (very) occasionally funny. His Right Wing Mandela and Obama characters are pretty funny. But, yes, the show is pretty unbearable when he fills in for Sam.
It helps when there is an oligarchy supporting your efforts.
Itâs MSNBCâŚif only the âAmerican Leftâ had anything to do with this decision. Here, have another hour of Morning Joe on the house.
may your desperation not last 3 yrs and 44 days.
If youâre doing anything because of Cernovich (except ignoring him), you should immeidaltely stop and carefully consider if youâre being used by the alt right to further its bullshit agenda.
Hear hear. Iâm afraid we keep bringing a knife to these gunfights.
Nah, even then.
I hope and trust that we are on the ascendent side of history. Itâs a matter of faith for those of us (like the American Founders) whose worldview was formed by the Enlightenment. The moral arc of the universe bends toward justice. Progress.
And there is empirical evidence that liberalism is functionally more successful than conservatism: The entire philosophy is based on responding to real-world challenges. Reactionaries disproportionately are given to a march of folly, because their worldview is built on inflexible faith and driven by, well, reaction (rather than reason).
But â as Trump, Putin, Xi, Duterte, Farage et al strut around the world â I have worried from time to time that the liberal democratic order is the ancien regime, in the sense that we are the ones who are endangered. The strength of despots is that they can crush all challengers with brute force, and therefore are inoculated (at least for a time) from suffering the consequences of their own incompetence.
Thatâs why 2018 is incredibly important. Not just the House but also â for the courts â the Senate. If this GOP crew keeps all the power in Washington, theyâll be emboldened to manipulate elections, shutter the press, control the airwaves, concentrate power â and it wouldnât be inconceivable for people to take to the streets in a way that would make the '60s look like a knitting club.
