Discussion: Mitt Romney Officially Launches Utah Senate Bid

this notion of Mitt being greater than Hatch or a Trump critic even, i’ll take a pass.

Do you think that he’s an impeachment guilty vote in 2019-2020 where we’ll need 67 and will have only 52-53 Dems in a best case scenario? (The 53rd would be O’Rourke’s, so this is a very best case scenario.)

I agree that no one should hold their breath on a guy who embraced the GOP playbook in the 2012 primary (then chased Obama around the stage in that first debate knowing that Obama would hesitate to show white voters an Af-Am man responding aggressively; followed by picking a spineless Koch employee as his running mate), but the individual upgrade to Romney from Hatch has more potential than those of Rosen from Heller, Sinema from Flake, or Bredeson from Corker if the midterms go really well because Romney will be the one with the ability to exert pressure on Republican Senators. Again, this isn’t the campaign to donate to or volunteer for, but I had liked successful blue state Republican governors before the 2012 Republican primary.

I’ll go one further – Flake’s sensitivity to First They Came for the Socialists is based on his own religious background and that of a large and dependable part of his base. I’ll take a Mormon Republican Senator any day (and with a higher portion of his base who can identify with persecution; plus a very well-educated most important city in SLC and its two quality local newspapers) over an Evangelical Republican Senator if we’re staring down Trump.

Really? How so? He’s just a different version of stupid and useless.

Mitt is smarter than Hatch—which doesn’t take much—and he’s not as far to the right.

There is no chance to elect a Democrat in Utah, so Mitt is the least bad choice available.
He’s also not gifted as a politician, so he’ll not be able to cause much actual harm.

I wish I had more pictures. We were so precious at that age.

This vulture’s desperation for power is sad and disturbing.

Porter was a “good Mormon” from Utah. He brought his values (and fists) with him to Washington DC, too.

As did the sleazy corporate toady Orin Hatch.

lol to funny
Imagine him at the senate podium trying to figure out to break it all up and sell the pieces to the highest bidder.
Of course he gets a 45% return for the effort.

Well that was exciting news. /s

For the short-term, good, he’s anti-Trump in a state that would never vote in a Democrat. My only concern is media ring leaders like the NYT tend to slobber all over Republicans who appear “moderate” but are far from it…I expect a tongue bathing from David Brooks and a few othes of his ilk this weekend.
