What he means: “I can’t help that I’m a racist. I’m a serious Republican.” Wow.
Christ, what an idiot.
Oh well that explains everything, then.
The next time a Teabagger tells me I’m being unfair by calling them a bunch of straight up racists, I’m pulling out ol’ Pete’s correspondence.
The first answer is often the least artful, and therefore the most revealing. He takes it for granted that other Republicans share his racist views. Could it be that behind on closed doors or in their own personal online correspondence many GOPers do allow their racist spite to emerge? Maybe saying that some folks have lost their freakin’ minds because a black guy is Prez isn’t liberal b.s. Nope, it’s just the truth, folks–a lot of people can’t dope with a black guy in charge, and can’t process that he’s actually doing better by them than some white rich guy would.
I say we take his first explanation at face value!
You don’t have to be racist to be a Republican…but it helps!
It’s like when Gingrich said his judgment about keeping it in his pants was impaired by an excess of patriotism. It’s really more graceful to acknowledge the actual problem—“I apologize for my actions. I’m not very bright, I have a deeply lame sense of humor, and I’m a casual racist.” You don’t have to explain you’re a fervent Republican at that point, it’s understood.
he’s flyover republican. nuff said.
Perfect. Somebody oughta ask Reince Priebus how he thinks about this.
Why wouldn’t I feel close to my caucasian brothers and sisters when they express such love to me?
Amerika is so great. I feel a renewed sense of patriotism.
Avon representative Sue Chaney loves it!
It really isn’t hidden behind closed doors. It’s usually pretty much right out in the open, and they feign ignorance and pretend it’s the extremes when the issue comes up in the media.
Just like impeachment. One minute FOX commentators or house members are calling for impeachment, and then literally moments later you have a FOX host or a house leader claiming they don’t know of any conservatives pushing for impeachment and pretending to be puzzled why Dems keep talking about it.
The racism is totally the same. Not Joe the Not Plumber is out there today openly calling blacks lazy. We’ve had countless party officials caught in similar racist joke exchanges. Then when someone notices, they have no clue why anyone would think they were racist and where they got that crazy idea.
A Republican city councilman in Missouri apologized this week for posting racist messages about President Obama on Facebook, citing his own strong engagement with the Republican Party as the reason behind his actions.
This guy just admitted what many, many people have known for a long time.
Some dems have issues, but not on the scale of the Republican Party.
I’m truly surprised he actually admitted it. It’s a part of who they are.
They’re not even trying to hide or sugarcoat it. They’re going all out, apparently thinking it will keep them in power longer, that and their cute voter suppression tricks.
Admitting what many of us have known since the Nixon/Reagan “Southern Strategy”
Wow. He talks about being a Republican like it’s some kind of a disorder he’s suffering from.
Glad there is no racism in the Republican party. /snark
Every once in a while we get a peek at how they converse with each other when they think no one is watching. It really is vile how racist and hateful they are.
He’s blaming it on some convoluted hive minded peer pressure thing. What a coward.
So, “Sorry to anyone I offended” means … who? Republicans?
It’s gotta be Republcans and only Republicans. It has to be, Sorry, I was a way OTT Republican so it LOOKS racist, but now I realize was unfortunately too heavy-handed in my racism because, contrary to my intentions, which were all honestly in the spirit of advancing Republicanism, I clumsily exposed Republicans for the racists they deny they are. Oh, and BYW: sorry Republicans for clarifying my exposing you all as racists. Dang, I keep STEPPING in it.
To be clear: considering the confluence of what’s STILL on his Facebook page and what’s he said in these two statements, there’s actually no indication whatsoever that he’s apologizing to the president, or this black guy Obama who somehow just happens to be the president, or the folks who supported and voted for Obama for president, or black folks, or anyone at all … other than Republicans, for himself being such a serial stumbledick.
And yet, he does seem remarkably representative.
