Discussion: Militiamen Rally Around Oregon GOP Senators Fleeing Climate Bill

Had to nudge my memory with google about the time the Dems fled Texas to Oklahoma.

Here’s how that went down:

It came to at least one “mind”

“Send bachelors and come heavily armed” State Sen. Brian Boquist (R) said Wednesday before the walk-out began. “I’m not going to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon.”

Remember those stories that trump was spending money in oregon?

Now we know why. Could get ugly out there.

LOL, true that. But you know how they also bluster without thinking about the consequences…

It didn’t turn out so well for Wisconsin dems when they fled to try to prevent Walker’s gutting of union rights.

At least Wisconsin wised up enough to elect a democratic governor this time.

I say we start calling them “assroots” organizations.

Yes.

Man, I wonder what makes these guys think they can pull stuff like this?

I mean, besides the last couple times they were allowed to pull stuff like this.

"claimed that more than 200 militiamen from 17 counties had mobilized "

That is a lot of beer belly to mobilize with any speed. I imagine the call to arms looked something like this.

Yes…

Wow these fucks are going to get themselves killed and take a few decent official military and police with them. They need to be treated as terrorist groups. It’s what they are.

I see these brave Patriots sunshine patriots are not willing to volunteer to join the military and fight in Afghanistan.

So the Republicans now have their own paramilitary organization working extrajudicially? What are they…some sort of cartel that needs such “protection”?

Put the Republican senators in shackles and bring em in.

Charge the entire Oregon Republican Party with inciting to violence, goddamn it.
Republicans are all traitors at this point. All of them.

Since, unlike Republicans, I do actually feel the sting of hypocrisy, I can’t condemn Oregon Republicans’ tactics too harshly since I thought Texas Democrats were heroes a few years ago for (ultimately unsuccessfully) using the same tactic to try and block anti-abortion laws. (I can, of course, call their substantive position–objectively pro-destruction of civilization–beyond evil and ignorant, especially since it is driven primarily by tribal hatred and “owning the libs.”) However, when Democrats fled Texas, they did not threaten in any way to engage in a military-style fire fight (or any violence whatever) with law enforcement officers sent to bring them back. To paraphrase the invaluable Charlie Pierce, your contemporary Republican Party, folks. Cherish it.

Really and truly through the looking glass here, folks - it is now a heroic stance to want to trash the environment as quickly as possible. I feel like I am wandering through the Twilight Zone on many days.
