Discussion: Military Experts Slam Border Mission Against People Who 'Don't Pose A Threat'

Mattis has rejected assertions that the military is being leveraged by the White House as a political stunt in advance of the midterm elections. “We don’t do stunts,” he said Wednesday lied, shamelessly.

And now more truth, courtesy of Lalo Alcaraz:

Note that this was drawn in 2016. Talk about prescient!

Why not label this as a political stunt, for surely that is what it is. Mattis has now been fully confirmed as a total tRump toady.

yeah I was kinda hoping he was the last bastion of sanity in the cabinet but at this stage he does look effectively neutered. ETTD.

I hold out 1% hope that after the dotard is removed from office (dog-willing) that Mattis outs himself as an undercover agent of the forces of good.

Okay, .1% hope.

The Pentagon should just say, NO. We are not wasting our time on your political stunt.
That might put the warlord in stroke mode.

Mr. Reality TV star on display for all the world to see. Scare the base with all these evil people approaching the border, call out the troops. Wonder who’s council he received to go over the top on this one?
This will all disappear after the elections.

Limbaugh forgot to add, “And create photo ops for Donald Trump.”

I get the sentiment, but the Pentagon should not be allowed to gainsay it’s civilian leadership. It’s antithetical to our entire existence as a republic. We (as a nation) put this idiot in charge of them, and this is what we get for it.

Many people see this as a red-meat tossup to the right-wing voters in order to swing their votes. Personally I think that’s shortsighted, as many of these folks will already be voting.

What concerns me is that 45* is in fact using these troops as a means of suppressing the Hispanic vote in border states. If he even thinks of stationing those troops anywhere near polling places, I sincerely hope Congress is ready for it.

Here’s the nugget that scares the crap out of me: “incidents of a negative character.”

That’s clearly military-speak for “civilian bloodbath.”

And the worst of it is, Trumplings wouldn’t even be fazed by it. Unlike Kent State and the Vietnam War, not a single shred of overall public opinion would change toward this so-called administration. Decent humans around the world would be horrified, and Trumplings would blame the unarmed civilians for being dead.

I don’t know how much more I can take before Tuesday. And if Tuesday doesn’t work out … well, that house I just bought may have to be sold so I can emigrate.

Give a fool a gun and he’ll find a reason to use it --multiplied by a million. Where is Congress once again? Lying in the gutter next to Trump. Vote vote vote vote vote vote vote

I hope none of these unarmed folks capture any of our troops because Trump will not like you if you are a POW.
Can you imagine any one wanting to serve with POS in charge?

it had taken the US military, years, to over come the ghosts & stench, of VIET NAM… now, they are being ordered, once again, to confront women , children , fathers. mothers with bayonets and bullets…TRUMPfs ‘caravan’ is his WILLY HORTON moment.

This is how Trump sees the caravan.

This is reality.

Yes a stunt, but for a political military stunt, it probably the one has the least chance of getting folks killed. Maybe Donald gave them several more dangerous options and so they took the least dangerous to reduce the number of folks that will get hurt. Just saying.

Maybe he shut down the deployment of A-10’s (BRRRRRT!) and reaper drones?

They settled on Operation Faithful Patriot because Operation Midterm Panic was a little too on the nose.

Two things:

Mattis has rejected assertions that the military is being leveraged by the White House as a political stunt in advance of the midterm elections. “We don’t do stunts,” he said Wednesday, but neither has he argued that sending thousands of active-duty soldiers to help secure the border is his preference.

Ha. Ha ha! Bwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaahhahahahahaaaaa! You fucking tool! You do whatever your Commander in Chief tells you to do, whether that’s barking like a dog, bitch, or stunts on the border. Enjoy being Wraithed by Trump, muthafukka.

Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy, who as head of U.S. Northern Command is commanding the military operation, dubbed “Operation Faithful Patriot,” has argued that the caravan is a potential threat, although he has not fully defined that.

Duh! Everything that has the potential to increase profits for the MIC is, by definition, a “threat”.

I’m surprised nobody has warned Trump that this dangerously distracts the military from properly preparing for a big parade.

This has settled into a long established pattern: Former officials say OMG this is crazy, current officials mumble into their fists. But when Trump is ordering troops around that’s a baby playing with matches. Four more days.
