I doubt she runs. But Trump would be presented with an especially thorny dilemma campaigning against her. Going after Warren for her allegedly faux Native American heritage is one thing. Running Michelle into the ground for being both a woman and black (something Trump could not refrain from) is another thing altogether. His misogyny and racism would undoubtedly be turned to “11” on the dial in short order.
Someone or some entity did a study a year or so ago looking for a person who could unite the country come next election.

It is no diss of the remarkable Michelle Obama to say that this comment is ill-founded.
As the first black first lady, she knew she would be labeled “other” and would have to earn the aura of “grace” given freely to her white predecessors.
More than a few of Ms. Obama’s predecessors were inspiring human beings in their own right but, honestly, few of them had any natural grace whatsoever. She does.
On the other hand, it did not matter to me. The president’s spouse is just that; and especially if there are still young children in the family, I’'m happy not to demand anything or do any judging.
There are exceptions, the most recent one being Mrs. Clinton’s involvement in her husband’s administration. She wanted a formal role in policy-making and she got it; and she was judged for it. (My opinion of her in the '90s? The role she wanted to play was an extremely difficult one, especially for a woman in this society. I felt she was more than qualified, technically. I’ll leave it at that.)
I bet she is working on a book also.
Maybe even the same one.

The Rump certainly didn’t invent the social norms that force everyone who isn’t a white man to work twice as hard, with half the margin for error, just to get a seat at the same table.
But he’s definitely validated the astonishingly low bar for racism. He’s definitely sanctified the belief, among anyone who manages to stifle their utterance of the N-bomb in public conversation, that they aren’t racist.

I see these rumors fly occasionally, or strong wishes in the guise of rumors, but as far as I’ve ever seen Michelle Obama has zero wish to run for any office. They’re both young and have many important contributions to make, but that’s not gonna happen. Just saying.
Michelle is far more valuable NOT running for office.
