So I guess there is rehabilitation for drug addicts. Too bad all those whose last name isn’t Bush don’t get the benefit of the doubt.
They might own that particular picture.
Yes, but that definitely got people’s attention and was a big wake-up call. We saw to what lengths craven republicans would go and started to think about what we would feel and do if it happened to us. No one liked to think about losing control of personal choice to those monsters.
The Bushies mishandled the Schiavo case, and then George totally screwed the pooch when Katrina hit. Incompetence abounded.
The Iraq War, with no WMD’s to be found, was turning into another nightmare.
That was the end of America’s love affair with the man they’d like to have a beer with.
It was especially craven and unprofessional of Dr. Frist to offer his “expert” opinion based on a video.
At least he’s gone, too, although Corker is hardly an improvement.
Nice job, Tennessee.
What makes you think that JEB would have had any more respect for the family’s wishes if they had agreed with her husband and, to the limited extent she had expressed them, her own?
This was about using big government to imposes the religious dictates of one religion on the rest of us.
Her husband is not beyond caring.
When you think about it, it’s the same thing. A betrayal of trust and a breach of a moral responsibility in the interest of his personal goals which he imagines to be congruent with the public good.
I want to believe that after all that transpired, and the autopsy showing that Terri’s brain had shrunk to half its size, strongly indicating that cognitive functions, including vision were nonexistent, that the family would not consent. I hope. However, this video was published so frequently before her death (by the family), that it may fall under “prior art” or “public domain” legal use.
But I am not a Florida lawyer.
He didn’t give much of a damn about whether he had adequate information to tell if Terri Schiavo was still capable of suffering or not, but she sure looked useful to his career. He thought.
‘Disgusting’ For Jeb Bush To ‘Exploit’ My Wife…"
That is Jeb! in a nutshell.
which he imagines to be congruent with the public good
You may well be giving him too much credit: No where in the cat confession does he say that his experiments were intended to help the human race, it was all about how he would be important.
Quite true. I was unthinkingly applying the “every one is the hero of his own story” maxim, which I’ve pretty much internalized in trying to reach an accommodation with an opponent or figure out how to examine people, but it doesn’t necessarily apply to narcissists and sociopaths because the need for self-justificaiton isn’t part of their makeup.
JEB!'s campaign is in a vegetative state.
I put nothing past the Bush family;
George H.W. Bush=Willie Horton
George W. Bush=John McCain’s black daughter
Jeb Bush=Terri Schiavo
It really was the turning point when a lot of people who’d stood by them because 'Murika fuck yeah, finally got over whatever illusions they ever had about them. A lot of people thought it was Katrina, but this episode is where it really started. It exposed the complete moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the Republican Party in a way that nothing else had. John Cole identifies it as the moment when all of his accumulated doubts crystalized and caused him to do a complete 180 politically after a lifetime of Republicanism.
Let’s hope that is true.
Next up: A JEB commercial with graphic footage of each of the 21 executions JEB presided over.
Jeb’s gonna flog this dead horse of a campaign until the billionaires and the rubes are even less responsive than Schaivo.
I thought Jeb! a least had enough sense NOT to bring up Schiavo. He looked like a complete goon using the power of the State of Florida, and the Presidency to interfere in a private matter. I was sickened by the abuse heaped on Michael Schiavo, and the utter disregard for the courts by Bush.
He should have still been running from this incident, but in true Bush form, Jeb! proves he’s got the balls and no brains.
This should be disqualifying, if Bush hadn’t already disqualified himself without assistance.
