Discussion: Mexico's Foreign Minister: Prez Spoke To Trump About His ‘Insults’ In Private

Had Trump demanded a flag displaying one from the nation he actually represents would have been appropriate.

I’m sure leaders from around the world took notice of this (self inflicted) humiliation. If Trump becomes president we won’t have to worry about him being an isolationist, the rest of the world will take care of that for us.

If Enrique Peña Nieto got up yesterday and asked himself “How can I bungle this to the nth degree? How can I take my abysmal level of popularity - an drive it even lower? How can I make myself look like the most naive witless played rube on the planet?” … well if he asked those questions - he found the answers…

But has Canada got any decent Mexican food?
Seriously, Canada will be too close to the nuke fallout. Tahiti might work, Or Hawaii.

Seems wordy and obvious to me.

Nieto missed a golden opportunity to become a national hero when he failed to slap that ignorant bastard right across his fat face at the press conference!
And the Secret Service have no jurisdiction in Mexico!

Does the U.S. have diplomatic relations with Hawaii?

Or more likely, this one:

Media coverage makes it look like Nieto (and Mexico by extension) got dominated by Trump. U.S. media following Trump were left behind to cover only Trump’s Arizona narrative. This looks like scorched earth campaign against Mexico. The question is, if Trump were to win, does Mexico have the economic and political wherewithal to stand up to us. The imagery from yesterday’s meeting implies that they don’t. Rather, the hard reality is that if Mexico wants to continue to benefit from U.S. economic largess, it will only be able to do so on vastly different terms set by a Trump administration.

Alternatively, “mordida” is the “bite” that corrupt officials take from the citizenry, aka a “bribe.” El Presidente just killed any chance he had of being re-elected; one can only hope the stink of failure rubs off on his guest. Nice “pivot,” Donnie; now shut the fuck up.

That picture of Trump ushering EPN forward, hand on his shoulder, is incomprehensible to me. That’s the gesture a sitting President uses on someone visiting the White House.

Contrast that with the body language of Cameron meeting with Romney, or better still, the utter and complete freeze-out Palin got when she tried to visit Thatcher, or better better still, Angela Merkel shoving Dubya away when he tried to give her a backrub at a goddam summit meeting!

It’s totally submissive. And, what’s more - ***everyone understands this!***. For heavens sake, they set up podiums just to make it look like Trump was actually somebody! It’s just not possible that a professional political hack doesn’t get this.

Even if EPN was surprised by Trump’s acceptance, he still went to a lot of effort to look like more of a punk than he needed to. He was trying to make someone happy.

It was a bad camera angle. It didn’t show the switchblade Donnie had in his hand…

There is no reelection in Mexico. Presidents serve a single term. Yes, mordida is bribe in Mexican slang.

I was going to say, this image shows exactly what Josh and others are talking about with Trump’s dominance politics.

Trump’s hand there, “guiding” Nieto, is dominant body language. Holding your hand out in front of yourself, palm up, “After you.” Putting your hand on his back, “You go over there now” or, to be more charitable, “Let me assist you even though no assistance is needed or was requested.”

People do this all the time; I’m sure there are dozens of pictures of Obama making the same gesture. I personally do this with my significant other. It’s unconscious and I don’t mean to belittle her, but still I know I do it. I think she understands.

With Trump, though, I think this is more of a conscious behavior. Or, at least, he is so fine-tuned to dominate everybody around him that he employs every sort of dominant behavior unconsciously, but precisely to belittle & dominate.

I don’t think it is always dominating. It is here, for sure.

It is welcoming and warm for a host to gesture like that with a guest. If Pena had done it, it would not have been remarkable, since he was the host. It is an ordinary mark of affection to do that with a loved one, and while it may be ordinary for larger people toward smaller (man to woman, woman to child), it doesn’t mean dominance but care.

Take the gesture out of its proper context, where someone should be displaying warmth and concern for another, and it means dominance. This was not the proper context.

So is Bernie not going to rally for Hillary? Time is getting short and Trump is getting more lethal. Maybe I’m not keeping up with Bernie’s schedule, but I thought maybe he would try to keep his young voters engaged through the election to make sure Trump does not pull out a last minute win. Just haven’t seen that except a few of his position appeals on Twitter but no mention of HRC.

Do you like tomatoes and salad greens in winter? How about a burger at McDonald’s? Or should you drive a Volkswagen, or several models of Toyota small cars? How about your electronics? Many are built in "maquiladora economic zones just south of the border. So yest, Mexico has considerable economic clout. They are our largest trading partner. If they decided to spank us we would certainly notice.
Presently the man on the street in Mexico is angry at trump and especially at Pena Nieto. Polls show Pena Nieto with an approval at 23% while trump is at 2% Why? Well Trump has spent a year insulting Mexico and her people at every opportunity calling them rapists and criminals. And Pena Nieto has invited this …person … to their National Home … their White House. How does a man cordially invite one who insults them to their home? I’ve canvassed my Hispanic friends and to a person they are absolutely opposed to trump.

EPN proves he and his cabinet are extremely gullible and only like to be praised.

It looks like Trump is pushing him along in that photo. It’s not a friendly hand on the shoulder. More dominance behavior from the Donald.
