The best part of this is that what’s scary to the viewers is that an outbreak MIGHT happen here. Not that thousands of people are dying gruesome deaths elsewhere, and millions more risk infection because of proximity to actual sick people.

I just laugh when the GOP keeps calling for an Ebola Czar to be appointed when the Surgeon General position is vacant right now. This is the Surgeon General’s job, not some “czar”.
The GOP’s idiocy here is just completely fascinating. They don’t want government anywhere hear healthcare yet when an extremely minor spread of a disease (one person) happens on U.S. soil they call for government interference from the very government agencies they’ve spent 15 years trying to defund.

Hey, Austin Dave, your points make sense but our country (and the rest of the world) has considerable ability to study virus and develop effective treatments and or a cure. A U.S. outbreak will receive a different level of response than the outbreaks in Africa have. Funding for research could jump bigtime. It sounds like transfusions can help victims. That drug seems to have saved lives as well.

I disagree with AustinDave. The “one change that sets the world plague nightmare parade in motion” is not airborne transmission. If mutations of the virus were to lead it to grow a tail and fins, then it could swim across the Atlantic. If it were to grow four legs, it could run all over the continent leaving messes on the sidewalks. What if it grew multiple identical heads and learned to talk? It could get a TV news station and really cause fear and panic. Oh, wait.
