Letter was clearly written by an experienced attorney.
Desperate people do desperate things. Crooked election official essentially stuffed the ballot box for his preferred candidate then instructs his underlings to lie about it. The results of this election need to be dumped. Redo it.

The national GOP response to this has been, obviously, silence.
But more notably, the conservatives in the General Assembly in my home state of NC … which is largely the same body that passed voter ID in 2013 to most significantly affect minority voters with (to quote a federal judge) “surgical precision” on the premise of protecting the ‘integrity of the vote’ … has done nothing.
I don’t use this word lightly, the NC GOP is racist, and in the worst way. Learned prejudices are one thing, but actively seeking to diminish the vote of minorities is a step above.

Sooner or later the temptation to say this episode proves the need for more restrictive and onerous election laws will get to the GOP, and they will be citing it as reason to act. They’ll use their own malfeascance to try and get what they want.

This reminded me of Lindsey Graham going on about McCabe and Rosenstein yesterday. The GOP does something so brazen and corrupt people can’t even properly get their heads around it – like actually collecting and destroying absentee ballots, or trading our foreign policy to the Russians in exchange for their interference in the election. Then the GOP takes an example of something about 1/1000th as egregious – a couple of people registering when they may not have been eligible, or a minor breach of confidentiality – and scream bloody murder, because they know not only will a large part of the media run with their false equivalency, but FOX will act as if that minor matter – the mote that Lindsey Graham or Rush LImbaugh is whining about – is actually bigger than the beam in their own eye.
