Ordinarily, McConnell’s sociopathic hypocrisy makes me feel aggrieved at the injustice of a world where he doesn’t just spontaneously explode like an overheated defective pressure cooker full of offal from the sheer force of his shamelessness. In this case, though, it tells me he’s beginning to worry that his own complicity is under the microscope.

McConnell is just worried about how much damage control will be necessary before the Nov. elections. Once the frog march starts, it’s going to be fun to watch Republicans squirm and cry about this investigation. No amount of whining will fix such a screwed up party.

It is, isn’t it? Particularly given that they just got access to hundreds of thousands of Cohen emails, there are reports Cohen is on the brink of flipping and Manfort is about to have his imagination supplemented by a foretaste of the rest of his life if he keeps holding out for a Trump pardon.

I’d say through some unspecified means Mueller is shut down within a month. Sessions revokes his recusal. Congress revokes the Special Counsel statute. Congress cuts off funds, so no one gets paid for their work. Trump gets Rosenstein or someone in his stead to fire him. Trump fires him, knowing the whole mess that would result at least amounts to a ton of sand in the gears.
Once that happens we’ll truly know Trump has free rein to do whatever he wants. Another Special Counsel or investigation of a similar nature will never be authorized, regardless the justification. Trump will be King and Dictator.
