Sounds like wishful thinking: only the âlastâ thumb in the eye?
âMcConnell: Torture Report Was One Last âThumb In The Eyeâ Of Bush Adminâ
Would you prefer we forced food up his ass instead?
I would.
Asked if he questioned the whether torture techniques were effective in countering terrorism, McConnell said âalmost everybody familiar has said they were.â
When faced with a dilemma it makes sense to ask, âWho benefits the most by lying?â Itâs just a shame that a supposed âleaderâ is willing to shed his last shed of decency at the Capital steps.
What does it say about Yertle that he has no problem with what the CIA did, but gets upset about their behavior having a light shown on it?
Well Iâll take a stab at that. Heâs a duly elected official that has fascist fantasies?
âIt served no purpose other than to confirm what we already knew that certain techniques were used on a few people.â
followed by
âthe only result of this release is to endanger American lives around the globe right now.â
He just argued the following:
-
Everybody already knew everything in the report, so it said nothing new (which, by the way, would include the âenemies of Amurikaâ and âterrorists,â who are clearly not hiding somewhere in a closet without any access whatsoever to the intertubes); and
-
That hearing all this old information that everyone already knew about and is absolutely nothing new will, for some unknown reason, somehow motivate the âenemies of Amurikaâ and âterroristsâ to new heights of outrage, indignation and resentment resulting in renewed fervor and increased desire to attackâŚyou know, despite their current level of hatred for our society and its behavior being based on already having known all about the information in this report, which was nothing new.
If you donât understand these statements as 100% self-contradictory, then thereâs no helping you.
It should be noted that the report would NEVER have been released in the next Congress.
NEVER.
Dems played it smart by pushing it to be released now. Double bonus for it being on the day Gruber testified before the GOP-led House Committee. The torture report really stole their thunder.
I really hope we see more of these types of moves by the Dems in the next two years.
So itâs not about trammeling American traditions and values, itâs about 'po widdle Dubya as the Turtle seriously underestimates the number of historical thumbs awaiting 43âs beady eyes.
Also curious how the networks have portrayed the CIA, in particular CBS, as some sort of traumatized frat house rape victim at the brutal hands of that thug Dianne Feinstein. Is this an indicator of ex Bush staffers on that networkâs payroll or CIA?
Anyone notice how the conversation in some quarters seems to be turning towards President Obama?
How do Cheney/Rumsfeldâs torture crimes suddenly fall on President Obama?
This is avoiding the real subject. I am not saying we shouldnât demand accountability NOW, from our current administration, I am just saying the real subjects, Cheney and Rumsfeld (and anyone connected with it AT THE TIME IT HAPPENED) should be what we are talking about.
And, yes, I do give Bush a bye, just because he was a stupid dupe. It doesnât take away his part in it, but we all know he was no oneâs mastermind.
Cheney and Rumsfeld, now that is a different story.
So here is the apology that President Obama should offer - A PARDON - which then fully documents that a crime has occurred and that GWB gets a free-pass. https://www.aclu.org/secure/cia-torture?emsrc=Nat_Appeal_AutologinEnabled&emissue=nationalsecurity&emtype=petition&ms=eml_140926_nationalsecurity&__af=XKIIfwzYh9%2BeYjCBvy9ThYDxvGPjDpK041OlY%2F3DWY3Hwr6f3OMBRKaNGEr76VFm22W10xFEfJ31f%2Bw9vW%2FqD%2Bvu%2FfI3aD1CnKyv90DRnGRZvePzNBvzj9iy0CLEXt8uSEeXlxY6t4u0Nbaoru8LwFtglaWZ966c3YGEeuMU%2FciDqdJFm4pBISox4eYqsLCbMNodrI55Eislr8ru%2BnI%2FLRki5kPnzBf5456Snyg0XJlbIHPTA8A1CQe2P3%2Fve%2BVcYB5808OAcHItxtaXB4m%2BzQ%3D%3D&__spstate=full
Gerald Ford used it for Nixon - what could the GOP complain about?
The entire Bush Admin was a black eye on Americaâs world standing, as well as a black eye to the average American. What a disgrace.
- âThose so-called âvictimsâ you bleeding hearts are mewlinâ about had it cominâ to 'em!â
- âHey, weâre the real victims here!â
Every time. Itâs all they got.
Case study in why the CIA can stumble unchanged from failure to failure. Letâs apply a little Republican-style reasoning: if the CIA was a private business, it would have vanished long ago. The Râs have a very weird attitude toward ânational securityâ.
One last âthumb in the eye of the Bush Aministrationâ is wishful thinking. This report does not deal with who knew what and when. This does not deal with the militaryâs involvement in enhanced interrogations and who knew what and when. Truly you do not see any of the Bush administration officials flying out of the US to attend conferences in other places. The final question then is what if any laws were violated in all of this. Would not surprise me that at the end of President Obamaâs term, there is some sort of pardon for all these actions. Last thumb? This is just the âtip of the icebergâ
looks pretty real to meâŚ
Why didnât he answer the same way he responds to questions about global warming:
âWell, Iâm not a tortuer myself, but some of the tortuers I have talked to say that it worked real well. As to your question about lyingâŚas a champion, bald-faced one, I can vouch for the efficacy of outrageous lies. After all, here I amâŚstill here. I even got a promotion! Do you need any better proof than that?â
One should qualify Sen. McConnellâs characterization: It is a âdeservingâ thumb in the eye of the Bush administration and delete the word âlast.â There are more.
McConnell knows as well as we do thereâll be no prosecutions. Heâs right. Thereâll be no more eye-thumbing of Republicans when heâs in charge, but Obama had better buy himself some safety goggles.
