If Mitch “Shitheel” McConnell thinks that the torture techniques were so successful and not illegal then why doesn’t this moron introduce legislation that would explicitly makes these torture techniques legal but worth of praise. Put your money where your waterboarding mouth is, Mitch…
That would be a good political move and would expose the culprits as the criminals they really are, but the guilty parties would still be restricted to staying in the USA, if they travel anywhere in the world but Dubai, they will likely get arrested.
Then what, we send in the Marines to free them from some World Court incarceration?
That might not end well… it would probably never end.
Oh, they are not going to travel out of the country. They know better. Bush even cancelled a trip to Canada.
With budgets in the uncounted billions, decades of activity within and without and plants in all key sectors it is indeed amazing that this form of job security for so many of the 1% unemployable relatives has so consistently misread the tea leaves while enjoying such a glowing media reputation.
I understand Mitch’s anger. That thumb doesn’t need to be in the Bush administration’s eye. Not when it could have been pressing on a randomly selected Afghani’s windpipe.
As usual, McConnell lies through his yellowing, stained teeth.
This isn’t really about the Bush administration—even though that bunch of wild-eyed right-wing true believers is responsible for the worst strategic disaster in US history, and is also responsible for the gross violations of US statutory law, international law, and all four Geneva Conventions.
This is, at bottom, about whether the US as a nation will admit that these illegal activities have stained our national honor and reputation for decades to come—and whether or not we will make sure that such deliberate contraventions of law, such repulsive ethical lapses, and such demonstrably immoral actions will be allowed to repeat.
If we let these actions occur again, the great American Experiment will officially be over.
Conservatives are fine with that—they prefer a more authoritarian and quasi-fascist approach to what they call governance.
But the rest of us should want to restore the national honor and to adhere to the moral and ethical principles that have made the US a beacon of sanity and hope for human rights.
It will take a long time to regain the moral stature that the Bush administration so cavalierly tossed aside.
But it is a job we must do.
Oh, you’re NOT to say anything BAD about a Republican, even though Bush et al deserve it. BUT! that BLACK MAN (boy?) in the WHITE House, there’s NO limit. C’est triste, n’est pas.
McConnell: Torture Report Was One Last ‘Thumb In The Eye’ Of Bush Admin
Consider themselves lucky.
I’d prefer to put a boot up their collective ass^s.
We’ll call it rectal cobbling.

McConnell sounds like a school teacher after a schoolyard scrap. Student A: student B stuck his thumb in my eye. Student B: I did not. which brings McConnell to the conclusion that almost everyone involved agrees nothing happened
Yes, that’s right Mitch, the real victims here are Bush and Cheney, not the people who were tortured with their approval.
There was an Opinion piece in the NYT written by Anthony D. Romero which suggested pardons. From the Article:
Pardons would make clear that crimes were committed; that the individuals who authorized and committed torture were indeed criminals; and that future architects and perpetrators of torture should beware. Prosecutions would be preferable, but pardons may be the only viable and lasting way to close the Pandora’s box of torture once and for all.
I disagree. So did most of the comments that followed the piece.
And yet, the American people reelect these people back in office… These are the same party who want to impeach Pres. Obama for giving MILLIONS healthcare while protecting war criminals.
“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”
― Upton Sinclair
Hobnailed boot.
Did we use the ol’ ‘Thumb in the Eye’ technique, too?
Well since he doesn’t seem to think torture is so bad, does that mean that a “thumb in the eye” is some kind of compliment?
Or is this simply another case of a wannabe bully being the first to whine at being mistreated?
Yeah, it’s not as if the Republicans are currently conducting investigations of the Obama Administration that are entirely politically motivated.
If he was in fact the worst president in modern history, and someone calls him the worst president in modern history, it’s his own dam fault. It is not the fault of Democrats or the liberal media…
It’s discouraging how every damn thing is just brushed off as partisan or tribal today. No matter how important.
This is a major problem in politics today. Criticism of policies and issues are taken way too personally. Even a subject as crucial to our national identity as torture, in which a report has been, at long last, produced and distributed to Americans, can only be described by Mr McConnell as a thumb in the eye of President Bush. It is no such thing at all. It is a disturbing report which truly describes and demonstrates the depth of our fear for the safety of our beloved country and the righteous principles we were willing to sacrifice in order to find and destroy the “evil doers”. It is a history lesson. One we can learn from. One we can use to adjust and improve our methods of obtaining information. Mr. McConnell - this whole generation of politicians for that matter - have a lot of growing up to do. We erred so let’s learn from it. Enough time has gone by for serious reflection of our actions. To take this so personally is childish and is a big disappointment to all of us who wish for the continued greatness of our country by learning and adjusting our policies to improve the safety and quality of life, as we have done in the past. I will, however stick my thumb in Mr. McConnell’s eye by saying that if he believes that the tortures used were effective because “almost everybody familiar (with them) has said they were.”, then why doesn’t he use the same logic when it comes to global warming?
