Not for Trump supporters. They’re well documented on the record as seeing Trump is fighting for them, and it’s the rest of the evil empire which is preventing him from doing great things for them. So this would just play into that card.

I agree in the broader context about the declaration downsides but I think Trump would see it as a bold, aggressive base-pleasing move that feels to him like what presidents really do—they say “Do this big thing!” and people jump to do it. The political haggling bores and frustrates him. He thrives on conflict where he doesn’t personally pay a price. Of course it would go to the courts, like so many other of his idiot executive actions. Not his concern, all he cares about is making noise. Remember Trump’s razor? He’ll choose the stupidest option? That’s a lifetime thing with him, doubling down on dumb guesses. I think it’s entirely possible he goes that route again.

Laws of thermodynics are rock solid. Somehow, in some way, this life-long deflecting and obfuscating of energy has to catch up and consume Agolf. He’s not like a normal person, who might pause and reflect because of the existence of even a shread of conscience. And that’s what’s so infuriating. He’s gotten away with it his entire life, and he throws it in our faces, telling us we’re stupid for not being like him, while telling us that we’re too weak to be like him.

I do not want a shutdown, and I surely do not want to see government workers being made to suffer once more. But it would be perversely satisfying to see Trump shove this up McConnell’s Constitutionally irresponsible ass again, since a day without seeing Mitch eat a big Trump shit sandwich is like a day without sunshine!

Trump watches the poll numbers. He doesn’t have enough rabid supporters to keep them up through any more shutdown/emergency/wall bullshit. Those numbers tanked during the last shutdown. Turtle was pissed that Trump’s crap was screwing with his GOP caucus.

Who has spent the last few decades insisting on getting a “win” in every. single. deal. Even when he loses, he has to find some way to spin it as a win, otherwise he just pouts in the corner.
And what we’re seeing here is him being painted into a corner, everyone saying that he’s losing by signing.
So I think there’s a huuuge chance that he refuses to sign.
His psyche can’t handle being called a loser and feeling like a loser.
Which is why he hated the last shutdown. His poll numbers tanked and he was furious with his aides for the bad press he was getting.
He’s had his big Wall Rally now, flush with triumph and I think he’s going to say he won and let it go. You misunderstand his ego - it’s capable of lying to him and telling him he won when he didn’t and he believes it.

He only agreed to the end of the shutdown with the “win” of getting agreement to negotiate about the wall.
