Discussion: McConnell Sounds Positive On Funding Deal, Calls Compromise ‘Good News’

He’s not going to do that. He’s going to declare victory and move on to something else.

I think that’s most likely but that damn declaration is an easy way out for him. He’s been told there are political downsides but I don’t think he’s really taken it to heart.

If it’s a dare, I think Donald will try it, he has no respect for McConnell…

Donald back from El Paso with a high after his rally ? He can walk on water right now…

The Mexican elves have been busy, building the wall at night when no one was watching. It was the perfect solution – the wall will be done soon and the Mexicans did it. This is another beautiful win for Spanky.

I think so too. Hannity got out in front of it, trying to bigfoot Coulter, thinking he was going to be the big man. But he forgot, he’s the dumbest talk show host in the history of talk shows. The Donald Trump of the airways.

But regularly visit the wall work as a background photo op. Just like following the progress of a new hotel construction.
Think ‘Mission Accomplished’ BS.

What are the chances Banksy isn’t working on a self destructing masterpiece to be added to the future wall segment?

Maybe. But Trump has a very short attention span and I think he is going to move on and when he does it will not be talked about unless someone asks and he’ll say there is a big beautiful wall thanks to him.

Well I have always seen the wall as a real opportunity to produce a gigantic tourist attraction - miles of anti-Trump graffiti.

I am no political strategist but I play one in the comments section. Here’s my take:

It is in the interest of the GOP senators for Trump to NOT sign on. If there’s another shutdown the blame is 100% on Trump. The senate can be the grown-ups and start distancing themselves from Trump on something they won’t lose the base over. Nobody wants another shutdown but the cultists. Turtle wants that sweet, sweet Koch money back. This could be the only way to step away from Trump and still retain some support of the base (not 100%, but enough not to worry about being primaried).

Photoshopped or real won’t even matter.

Only if the media is willing to spin it as a win for him.

He can’t be a loser, it goes against everything in his instincts (even as he loses so often in life. I expect it’s a reaction to never living up to his dad’s achievements).

So if CNN, NYT, WaPo and the rest would just write glowing articles about how this is a massive “win” for the President, we can just move on… Otherwise…

Yep. They managed to get a fig leaf, which is still enough to send a lot of Democrats into a rage. If they go ahead and shut down the government again, they won’t get anything.

I’m totally there.

There is a huge political downside to declaring a State of Emergency. It will instantly be put on hold and thrown to the courts, where it will eventually be declared illegal.

In other words, it will be be an exercise in futility that will humiliate him. And him only. I suspect Turtle has explained this to him in pre school language that even a Dotard can follow.

It will be nothing but another huge fuck up. I think he likes the way it sounds but he is a coward all the way through.
