You know the country is in a bad place when the soft bigotry of low expectations becomes the standard by which the President of the United States is judged.
We haven’t been here since the last time we had a popular-vote-losing Republican president … and look how that turned out: major terrorist attack, war with a country that hadn’t attacked us, a drowned city, and, to top it all off, the collapse of our economy.
And the current popular-vote-losing Republican president shows every sign of being orders of magnitude worse.
Oh yeah, this is gonna be a long four fucking years.
Things that qualify as “Presidential” to the GOP in 2017:

Manage a full 60 minutes without dropping trou and taking a dump in the well of the House.

Give an entire speech without once boasting of sexually assaulting another man’s wife (or child).

Feed on the corpse of a man you incompetently sent to a futile death days earlier.
(Bonus points for emotionally manipulating his grief-stricken widow on national television.)

We’ve been hearing this for a while now, how Trump was “presidential” this time or that time, and how he’s finally come in to the office. But History will not be kind to Mr. Trump, or his voters.
If by “Presidential,” you mean that he remained a mendacious jackass, then yes, he became Presidential, you lyin’ Turtle.

You don’t become “Presidential” with a speech.
You become Presidential by acting with class and dignity, with grace in your heart.
You become Presidential by governing for all the people, but most of all for the poor and downtrodden.
You become Presidential by fulfilling the values of this great nation that our forefathers established over two centuries ago.
So far, fail on all counts.
Mitch, when your standard for presidential is the guy managed not to brag about the awesome adequacy of his johnson, you need to raise your standard. And that means that yes, you need to raise your standard. We’ve had world-historical people serve as President. Your guy is world-historically bad. This is obvious and no amount of lying and desperation changes that. This is on you. And the consequences are rushing up faster than your lying and spinning can ever deflect. The only question is whether the country you’ve profoundly betrayed will survive. You yourself have so much to answer for that your reputation and memory are permanently destroyed. Only the craven mediocrities who let us slide into civil war have an equal claim to our disgust, and that’s if you’re lucky, because things could get much worse from here.
Perhaps McConnell can share more of his thoughts about the adequacy and status of the presidential penis.
