Interestingly, McCarthy exempted his own party from any wrongdoing. Republicans have been working hard at proposing jobs bills and everything the voting public expects of them. It’s those doggone Democrats who won’t cooperate!
I don’t expect to see anything getting done for the next two years. But, of course, Republicans will blame their nothingness on President Obama. And so it goes.
How can Harry Reid be the problem? The House refuses to negotiate over differences in legislation so the repubs just expect the Senate to rubber stamp a bill and put it on the president’s desk. Yea right. And you don’t “negotiate” over legislation after its on the president’s desk to be signed.

The problem would seem to be that the Republicans are using a different dictionary from everyone else. In their dictionary, “compromise” and “appeasement” mean the same thing, and what the Republicans call “negotiation” the rest of the world calls “date rape”.

I think that more bills would pass in both the House and the Senate if they were ‘singular purpose/item’ bills. Every time something the majority of lawmakers agree on starts to make headway, there are attachments or additions to it and it makes it a poison pill. Can’t they vote on a single item and get a law enacted?

Since Kev is my representative, I welcome the sunlight his leader position may bring to the cesspool of Kern County politics, and, indeed, much of what has been happening in the southern San Joaquin Valley. Kern County accounts for about 10% of domestic oil production in the US. Nowadays that requires massive amounts of water. As Jean Fuller, the area’s state senator has like to point out, a fracking operation (usually several wells in coproduction) uses only as much water as a golf course in the Central Valley, i.e. only about 250 acre-feet a year (220,000 gallons of water a day). The problem is that Bakersfield doesn’t have 10,000 golf courses. It does have over 40,000 wells that “produce” with steam and water injection.
The GRACE satellite, which is used among other things to measure groundwater depletion, has found that the rate of groundwater depletion has been about 10 cubic kilometers a year in the San Joaquin. This means that one of the most valuable pieces of farming real estate in the US (and indeed the world) has suffered far worse abuse than most realize. Some of these ag corporations have already moved on to Paraguay, Brazil, Canada, Zambia, Madagascar, and even Ukraine, but the residents of Kevin’s district, who’s only other main businesses are prison-industrial and defense, face a bleak future when things fall apart.
Talk about living in an alternate universe. In McCarthy’s universe it is the Democrats who are filibustering everything that is being brought up for a vote. In this one it is the republicans.
