Discussion: McCarthy Condemns King's Words As 'Reckless, Wrong'

“Everything about white supremacy and white nationalism goes against who we are as a nation,” but it is everything about what the GOP has become.

Getting bothered after Kng has been in congress going on 16 years eh Kevin ? Spare us.

" he has served in Congress since 2003; his district, which was numbered the 5th congressional district until 2013, is in northwestern Iowa and includes Sioux City. He is Iowa’s House delegation’s only Republican. "

So pull his committee assignments and just let him sit in his seat in the chamber, unrecognized.

McCarthy: But, other than being a racist boor, he’s cool. He votes the party line.

I don’t think Ryan would have rebuked King as strongly. Since Trump has said similar things, it is also a criticism of him.

Hey Kevo why are King’s comments ‘reckless’?

reck·less
/ˈrekləs/Submit
adjective
(of a person or their actions) without thinking or caring about the consequences of an action.

King knew exactly what the words he was using would do. He’s not misguided or unaware.

It’s your Republican Party Kevo, do something or sit down and shut up.

In Europe, there has been a splintering of far right groups. The divide is between those who want to overtly express racist views (e.g. Finns Party in Finland or Jobbik in Hungary) and covert racist parties (e.g. Sweden Democrats in Sweden and Blue Reform in Finland or Fidesz in Hungary). I would argue the McCarthy is a covert racist. For example, he shows absolutely no concern about the rampant child poverty in Bakersfield, his home town, even if 37% of children 5 and under live in poverty. The key is that they are mostly Latino. He doesn’t have to attack these people because they simply don’t move in his circles. More importantly, the straight-up racist members of congress are isolated and can’t really leave the party. They can only battle for their beliefs, and to McCarthy’s chagrin, have Trump’s ear quite often. In any case, we’re watching a struggle between the overt and covert racists in the Republican party. As King noted in describing to the diversity of the House Democratic caucus, “You could look over there and think the Democratic Party is no country for white men.” My Kevin is not objecting to that.

The GOP only notices because they are in the minority.

Who ya kiddin’ there bub…this is the essence of your party and the major appeal to your base.

Not True, White Supremacy was Kosher for almost the first 200 years of the republic.

McCarthy Condemns King’s Words As ‘Reckless, Wrong’

I thought Edgar Bergen was dead.

You ought to clean up that headline to make it clear that he was condemning Steve King. With this Trump/Republican party, it’s a 50/50 chance he was condemning Martin Luther King, Jr.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)

I just love reading those words.

It’s an improvement, but remember TJ Cox actually unseated David Valadao in CA-21, which has commonalities with CA-23 next door. McCarthy lost about 7 points of his advantage in the redistricting in CA, but so far he has been seen as invincible. Right candidate and a few more scandals like discriminated Cherokee nepotism and he’s gone. Former Congressman McCarthy sounds better to my ears.

Apparently, some white supremacists don’t like it when other white supremacists say the quiet parts loud.

" The culture of America, based on values brought to the United states from whites in Europe." Is that an incorrect statement? I imagine there’s validity in claiming the territories invaded by the Spanish and Portuguese historically haven’t fared very well.

That quote is clear racism. However the quote,"…culture of America…based on values brought to the United States by whites from Europe," is valid.
