Discussion: Matthews Blasts Cruz: SCOTUS 'Seized' 2000 Election, 'You Did Not Complain' (VIDEO)

There is no “Comcast effect.” Matthews has always been all over the map as an interviewer and commentator. No one has ever mistaken him for a real journalist. This was, however, most certainly a gotcha moment.

And, come to think of it … the ruling on the Voting Rights Act either.

“Senator Cruz, other than an ACA ruling or same sex marriage ruling, what Supreme Court decisions do you believe were made by unelected “activist” judges?”

I think that requires some self-awareness and he doesn’t have any of it.

Cruz isn’t going to show up on Maddow, he shows up on Matthews’ show because he knows he won’t be eviscerated. It’s easy to joke about Chris Matthews, as he talks over his guests even when he is buttering them up and comes up with bizarre comparisons at times, but some of his “softball” reputation is based on his style of lulling guests into a comfort zone by seeming overly agreeable and then getting to the tougher questions when their guard is down. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not really a fan of Hardball, but I’ll give him credit for full 15 minute interview which covers a lot of territory over the usual 5 minutes in most of the media in which the guest gets either a tongue-bath, a one-sided smackdown or a “we’ll have to leave it there” just as any real conversation starts.

And the best thing about the German language is compound words like that. Its just so very perfect!

He bought into his own hype. His Senate run was crafted by others, he was merely the figure head they chose to put in it. But he believed that it was his personality that carried the day, so he can do no wrong.

By comparison, and to your point, his launch has been pretty much a flop. He didn’t take the time to launch an exploratory committee, which is when you normally bring in strategists to help you figure out what your long game is going to be, and that lack of planning has shown every day since…from his lack of a big billionaire funder, to his lack of getting any good press or coverage in the right wing media, to his lack of health care because of his wife’s abrupt resignation, All of that points to a very big problem with strategic thinking.

But with enough vaseline applied that most blows will just slip right off.

Nixon’s White House pefected the “non-denial denial” in Wodstein’s words; Cruz has clearly used his debating years to perfect the "“non-response response”.

Matthews tends to exasperate me more often than not these days, but that was a particularly good callout, since the Court’s role in the 200 election left mroe than a few people feeling queasy, and not just on the left.

I try not to judge people by their looks, but how did Ted Cruz’s penis end up in the middle of his face? Is his nose in his crotch?
