“Good Lord, it’s 2016. Every one of my cops should know better,” is the proper attitude towards every word to pass every Rumpublican’s lips, starting with the Rump himself and working it’s way down to the most obscure county clerk from BFE who’s running unopposed.
The police and the military are an arm of government. I’m having a hard time getting my head around people who work for and get paid by the government being anti-government.
But I guess it’s a little like the people who say, “Keep your government hands off my Social Security.”
Not exactly. Oath keepers are not your typical militia types. They do not see themselves as anarchists, and they do not oppose the principle of government; they just claim that almost all currently existing laws are unconstitutional, and that therefore they are not obligated to enforce them. That’s the point of the “Oath keeper” name - as far as they’re concerned, they all “took an oath” to protect and defend the Constitution, and that’s what they believe they are doing. Except that the “constitution” they are protecting is the imaginary RW fantasy version, not the one that was actually ratified by the states. But the point is, in their own minds it is perfectly logical for them to serve as active police or military personnel, and fight from within to steer their misguided brothers-in-arms back onto the path of righteousness. Which IMO makes them much more dangerous than an overtly anti-government militia.
AGREED! When I mustered into the Army, I had to swear to and sign that I had never supported or belonged to a ROSTER of post-McCarthy-era groups that were on America’s watch list. Any police officer must be required to do the same. 'Nuff said.
But it also seems like these internal inquiries have been letting a lot of these guys off scot free. That is the big issue.
this is what happens when someone like trump is praised because he isn’t PC. some people seem to think they can say anything vile and hateful and it is just hunky dory. well, no, it is not.
“Oathkeepers” are a domestic terrorist organization and seek to undermine our democracy.
Good for her.
I’m not going to argue the relative intelligence or integrity of members of law enforcement, but as a resident of central MD, I’m not at all surprised that this doofus was suspended. I doubt he’ll remain on the force much longer, at least in this area.
I’m sure he knew what he was doing in displaying the hat in his cruiser, and his idiotic defiance of county policy will cost him his job, as it should.
Unlike the questionable practices and attitudes of law enforcement in other parts of the country (hello Constitutional Sheriffs), metro Baltimore is too urbanized and too diverse to have yahoos like this around.
Hat tip to the lady who took the picture. It’s important to keep oafs under close watch
Meanwhile, back in April the Oat Kreepers predicted Conservatives® Would resort to civil war if Clinton wins…
Is THIS when the extremist right discovers that Liberals own plenty of guns too?
I have no LOCAL proof of that…however;
If the cast of motley fools I took the test with (for entry into the academy. NY allows you to enter at any age up to 55 for certain services) is any indication, I’ll pass…and I DID pass. I went on to do something completely different from law enforcement (a good friend of mine-a cop-convinced me to take the test at such an advanced stage of decrepitude).
That’s the long way of saying that I was appalled at the low level of intelligence and/or sophistication in any way (I’ve know sophisticated shut-ins in the middle of 5000 acres of Pak land, so I’m not being bigoted) on display and decided afterwards to not pursue it-then I got my results and was convinced of it. I had placed in the top 3% of applicants. Only problem is, I’m not that smart. I’m not dumb either, so I knew that meant that if wanted to challenge myself, it wasn’t with a group that I was in the top 3% of! So in my mind, that was it. My certification expired a year later (I was duly notified in writing).
Fast forward nearly 5 years now, I get this letter recently telling me that they would ‘re-certify’ my results if I was interested in joining up…at a 15% pay increase to start…
I can’t attest to or locals, but the NYC area isn’t rejecting the smart ones, they can’t get them to sign up!!
Turns out, that’s an issue in a LOT of places. Who knew?
