Discussion: Martin Luther King III Criticizes Trump On Race

I like the sentiment. MLKIII is standing up for America.

And our president, the “least racist person” ever, celebrates MLK Day by playing golf.

“We got to find a way to work on this man’s heart.”

Why? By proclamation, he is the least racist person ever.

I was going to recommend a stake and hammer to use for that work, personally.

MLK III notes that, “George Wallace was a staunch racist and we worked on his heart and ultimately George Wallace transformed.” He went on to say, “We got to find a way to work on this man’s [Trump’s] heart.”

I wish King all good fortune in this endeavor, but hope that he remembers two things:

  1. For Trump to “transform” his heart, he needs to acknowledge that his view of minorities has been mistaken. Trump is completely incapable of admitting to any mistake, period.

  2. In order to “work on this man’s heart” one must assume that Trump has a heart. Does he? In at least the metaphorical sense, it seems to me that Trump is completely heartless.

Digby points out that trump is against any immigration. It’s all about eugenics, isn’t it?

Yes, sociopaths are heartless by definition. Wallace was much younger and seriously disabled when he seemed to change.

The only work I want to do on Trump’s heart is feed him some more Big Macs.

Anyone who believes that our alt-president is not a racist has most clearly not been listening.

At least DT didn’t cite MLK as “an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice.”

A man who has performed a thousand bad acts can be redeemed by one single good act.

A man who has performed a thousand good acts can be damned by one single bad act.

That is an equation that has pestered me more than I like. It will allow Trump one day to stand in front of his public, cry and beg for understanding and he will be forgiven by those people who are too easily swayed. And a man such as Al Franken, in in one stroke can be banished into infamy.

Donnie wants to be a King.

I’m pretty sure that in the future, the US won’t have a Donald J. Trump holiday.

Unless it memorializes the day the Trump Crime family finally goes to prison and / or the gallows.

I feel certain that Al Franken will redeem himself. Trump, not so much.

The very thought that Trump might “one day to stand in front of his public, cry and beg for understanding” is so far beyond the realm of probability as to be completely implausible. The man is totally incapable of acknowledging that he might need to be forgiven for anything. His hubris completely blocks any critical introspection, and like the fate of the ancient tragic “heroes,” that can only lead to his ultimate failure.

Let us all hope that he does not drag the rest of us down with him.

Fixed.

I mean, does III know how much steak and McDonald’s cheese burgers Trump eats? A cardiovascular surgeon wouldn’t touch this man’s heart. It’s too far gone.

Not according to Doctor Ronny (Ronnie) who says he’s in excellent health.

I follow what you are saying. Trump will do it only, and I mean only as a ploy. He will have his Jimmy Swaggart moment when it becomes productive for him. Infirm as he might be, the instinct is there. It will come not from introspection or some moment of humanitarian conversion. Never cared for the guy and he has sealed all expectations to nth degree. If this man says he is sorry, gather your loved ones about you, shutter the windows and lock the doors. He is going to take something from you if you fall for the routine.

Al Franken did one thing I hoped. He did not suddenly bail on his own volition. He responded to the people he serves. His trespasses pale in view of others. He is very likely to be a voice again. In some respects I wished he had hung in there longer. But he would have been fuel for the right in the whatabout wars. But he is a good, maybe flawed man. Be we all are.
