Discussion: Mark Zuckerberg Pledges To Donate $45B Of Facebook Shares In Letter To Daughter

Discussion for article #243319

OK Trump, you have been one upped. Just try to do better than the Zuckerbergs. Your paltry $5 million charge to do the GOP debate looks rather crass now, doesn’t it?

Hmmmph. Well? Good on him, I guess. my suggestion would be to move it to a trust now, pay yourself 200k a year, and live off that. Sell your mansions.

Wealth is not good for children, and it is a sign of a mature adult that he realizes that.

Seriously? Giving away 99% of his fortune to cure disease and improve education globally makes him a tax dodging prick? You really need to get your a-hole meter checked. I think it is stuck somewhere.

Fuck YEAH!

On the lighter side, spread a little NORML’s way. It’s a social justice issue.

“Zuckerberg Pledges To Donate $45B In Letter To Newborn Daughter Max.”

A penance that will never absolve him of naming his daughter “Max”.

Or, for that matter, of permanently dodging his taxes:

“Zuckerberg will survive his encounter with the tax man in a position to never have to pay taxes again for the rest of his life.” – CNN

Read this, and shut your stupid mouth. Zuckerberg and Chan donated $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital not long ago. They are spreading the wealth to those who need it and YOU are a stupid prick and a misanthrope.

San Francisco General’s new nine-story, 283-bed hospital will include an emergency room that is double the size of the existing one, two additional trauma rooms and three more operating rooms. In addition to helping to outfit the new center, the Zuckerberg-Chan donation is expected to be used to help pay for converting the existing hospital into an ambulatory care center, which will also have skilled nursing beds.

Check my comments to Darcy about Zuckerberg and Chan about their philanthropy (except for the places where I channel my inner longshoreman), but as to daughter named Max, maybe she can run with Apple, Brooklyn, or Moxie Firefighter when she grows up.

Wow! That is fantastic for SFGeneral!! I used their services (through the UC doctors) many a times–in particular their neurological departments. Additionally, I went to the ER when my appendix was rupturing and a couple other things. The nurses there were the BEST. I am really happy to see this, littlegirlblue. Do you know what they’ll be doing with the original site on Potrero? For many reasons, I love that old style of buildings … even the underground bunker/fallout shelters – I got wheeled through there many times by long-timers who knew many short-cuts. Amazing place. UCSF doctors are some of the best in the world. General also is a top trauma center.

Didn’t say that now did I? And he’s only doing this for tax purposes.

The Loophole That Allows Facebook to Avoid Paying Taxes on Billions of Earnings
—By Dana Liebelson | Fri Nov. 8, 2013 12:22 PM EST

Most Americans assume that Silicon Valley, a shining beacon of US economic growth, will give a lot of dough back to Uncle Sam over the next few years. But thanks to a controversial loophole in US tax code, 12 tech companies—including Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin—are poised to avoid paying income taxes on their next $11.4 billion in earnings, netting the companies a collective savings of $4 billion, according to a report put out this week by the Citizens for Tax Justice (CTJ).

And there’s more but you can look it up.

In any case the child will not be reduced to poverty status.

He is spreading the wealth.

What a nice picture of this young family. Beautiful.

Maybe it’s just a matter of perspective.

A (greatly appreciated) $75 million donation is a huge chunk of change in the abstract.

But it’s only about one-tenth of one-percent on a $46.8 billion net worth.

Mathematically, it’s like giving $1,600 to charity from a $1M net worth.

(I donate way more than that to charity every year even though my net’s nowhere near $1M.)

“For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required,” and all.

Just a thought….
