Good God, she actually believes that McConnell wonāt resort to the nuclear option when it comes time to replace one of the liberal justices on the Court.
Democrats display such blithering cluelessness about what makes humans tick itās surprising to me that they can manage to get elected at all. Humans in every culture have an instinctive positive response to people who vigorously stand up for themselves in whatever theyāre doing, and have a innate, instinctive lack of respect for those who donāt. Unfortunately, for all their faults, Republicans seem to grasp this.

ND is deeper red than many in the deep south. The fact that she won her seat in 2012 was a huge upset.
If she had the same positions as Schumer or Feinstein or Booker she would have never been elected. Iāve lived in ND and I know what kind of people live there.
Would you rather have someone that votes with Democrats 75% of the time? or a hyper conservative that votes with the GOP 99% of the time?
If you want a progressive to run for Senate in ND, just be prepared for that Senate seat to be lost by a massive margin. (Hoeven won 76-22).

Now thereās a report that he said no, because heās looking at a possible primary challenge (i forgot the name), but thas politics.

Heās got it front and center on his website. Came out strong against DeVos too. Iāve been pleasantly surprised with how aggressive his opposition has been. Didnāt expect it, but credit is due.

What pisses me off about Manchin is that he is dead meat anyway. Heās a phony Democrat who isnāt going to get any Dem support anymore, and the Republican voters in WV would rather slit their own throats than vote for a Dem, even though the GOP constantly shits on them and will end up making them eat coal for dinner. He could have stood up and told McConnell to go fuck himself, and at least he would have gained some respect from his Democratic base and scared the shit out of McConnell who, despite his rhetoric, is deathly afraid of ending the filibuster, because then the GOP has no one to blame but itself after they destroy everything people in this country depend on and hold dear. But Manchin wussed out, but Iām sure heās got a sweet lobbying job lined up. Heās basically the male version of Blanche Lincoln.
Oh, and Howard Dean was just interviewed by Steve Kornacki on MSNBC, and Dean said if the Dems fold and donāt filibuster Gorsuch, they may as well forget about getting any money from their base anymore. Truer words were never spoken.

On one hand, Democratic politicians have to realize that cooperating with āthe Triumvirateā (Trump, McConnell and Ryan) is clearly a no-no.
However as long as thereās a chance to hear Mike Lee go off next Friday, i donāt care if Manchin votes red in this instance.
Yes, hes asking for it, but as long as i get legislative āfireworksā (a filibuster) next week, ill let his vote pass.

Looks like this is going to have to be reposted frequently. Manchin can address the necessity for health care improvements and a call for coal miner retraining.
Looking at what went down today in the Senate isnāt pretty, and there WILL be a republican in the White House until 2020. One possible as bad as the next. Any possible mitigation will be in 2018 in the House, but suffering more loses in the Senate might even negate that.

No, Heidi, two wrongs donāt make a right. Three lefts, however, do make a right.
Hereās the thing, Heidi: we arenāt talking about interpersonal relationships here. We are talking about institutional relationships. There is fairly persuasive evidence that ātit-for-tatā is a generally good strategy in this sort of game. We have a game here where both parties do well if they cooperate, but one party can do better by defecting (betrayal of trust, if you prefer). Both parties do worse if they both defect.
In a single replication of this game, defecting is the best solution and you hope you oppose a chump who will choose to cooperate. But if the game is iterated, even the biggest chump eventually figures out that they are being ripped off and cease cooperation.
In this kind of situation, defections must be punished. The question is, how much punishment and of what sort? Tit-for-tat works pretty well. Blocking Gorsuchās confirmation is symmetric and appropriate.
Mitch can change the rules ā but a number of his own caucus are reluctant to do that. Make him work for it. Make him change the rules in a way that will be disadvantageous when his party is next in the minority. If American politics teaches anything, it is that majorities are not forever.

Alan Grayson, for all his personal foibles (and trump has proven how they can be overcome) is a fighter. If Reid and Obama hadnāt been afraid of him and backed the one guy (Patrick Murphy) who was as empty a suit as Little Marco the Dems likely would have won that seat. There are times to go along to get along and there are times to go down fighting - this is the latter and itās past time that lesson was learned.

Itās remarkable how useless Dems are at politics. Little wonder theyāve been wiped out. The only thing they seem to stand for is not being republicans and the interest of minority groups that donāt necessarily want to be treated like minorities in the first place.
Theyāre incumbents. Why give the republicans Mercers any fuel?
