In case anyone wonders why I have very tepid support for the DNC/DSCC/DCCC pumping in tons of money to help moderate Dems get elected - Manchin/McCaskill/Heitkamp all leaning toward confirmation.
Why is anybody either upset or surprised? Manchin is sitting in the state PP won by the latest margin. He is the definition of running scared, and I do not give a shit if he feels he needs to support the president on this one. Fine. Let him. And let him be one of less than a handful. We can afford to lose a few votes and still filibuster, but we can’t afford to lose a Senate seat.
Joe Manchin, going for the “Lieberman seat” in the present Senate. Thanks, Joe…for nothing. It is not a question of his qualifications (although he’s clearly in the mold of Alito and Thomas), it’s that he should not even have been nominated for the seat. That was stolen from Merrick Garland and Barack Obama. Manchin is a true “DINO.” Hopefully he’ll get thrown out at his next election.

They are rewarding the GOP for stealing a Supreme Court seat.
Joe is up in 2018 in a state that went Trump 68-22. That was the lowest % for Clinton in the nation by over 5%.
I think he has to do this, and doubt it will be enough to hold onto his seat. If he was up in 2020, I think there might be time for Trump disillusionment to take hold even in WV.
If I was optimistic about the chances of stopping Gorsuch (or “Grouch’” as spellcheck suggests), I’d be upset by this, but I’m not optimistic.
It’s one thing to not endorse the use of the filibuster on Gorsuch. It’s entirely another to actually vote FOR Gorsuch.

No, no. Hopefully not. We need every fucking Senator we can get. Manchin votes with Dems, what, 80, 90% of the time? How often does Smelly Moore Capito vote with us? Never %? Because that’s what we’re going to get with a regressive Republican who’d undoubtedly replace him. This is war, y’all. We need asses in seats and it doesn’t matter, not one bit if that ass is pure or a prostitute.

I’m not sure this is a smart move politically. Gorsuch is pro-corporate in a blue collar state. It shouldn’t be too hard to get out in front of this by saying you couldn’t vote for a man that would let a trucker freeze just because his boss said so. I think he could have his cake and eat it too - but he certainly knows WV better than I do …
“After doing my due diligence by meeting with Judge Gorsuch and reviewing his record and testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I’ve decided to vote in favor of his confirmation,” Heitkamp said in a statement.
He’s from West Virginia. It’s hard for me to get mad. Maybe West Virginia can start electing more progressive politians, but until then I give Joe as pass on this.
