Lots of rules for the jury.

Even more rules for the prosecution.

But apparently none for the defense or the judge?

I guess it’s too late to hope he’ll just rule on motions, keep things moving in his court room and keep his bad jokes and improper/possibly prejudicial comments and admonitions to himself.

:joy: Yeah no kidding!

It’s kind of a bit much, if you think about it. You know, something along the lines of…fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me…? This is the second time he’s going to have to make a retraction or apology of some sort, so that’s not a good thing. Granted, I’m not a lawyer But…

No recourse for the prosecution whatsoever, at least as far as this case goes. They could conceivably file a complaint alleging judicial misconduct, but Judge Ellis’s comments and conduct at here don’t come close to the level that would usually provoke such a complaint. And even then, Manafort would still walk away from these charges if he has been acquitted by the jury.

Conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Here is the motion.

Damn.

now why would he plea when the defense hasn’t even presented its case?

None. Double jeopardy comes into play re: Manafort.

I think conspiracy to defraud the US by not paying taxes, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, etc., everything he’s been charged with in this trial. IANAL

Because it is the last good chance he has. It is pretty damn obvious that he is being trounced. The man is what 71 years old. He will die in prison if he doesn’t plea.

Today’s evidence is supposed to focus on his selling the Army Secretary job to a Chicago banker for a loan. That evidence is going to leave a real mark especially with Trump.

I’m assuming that was snark?

This judge is so biased against the prosecution that it will be grounds for appeal if somehow Manicotti is found not guilty. If it’s a hung jury, the prosecution should definitely try it again.

They really let the Judge have it, and they are 100% right. It wasn’t cranky, it was stupid.

Tierney and Caitlin wrote a perfect account of the morning proceedings or lack thereof. Perhaps a plea is in the works. This allows sounds familiar to me, I have had lots of experience with this.
