So, just to clarify what happened here:
Manafort’s lawyers filed a routine two-page motion on a simple scheduling matter. They were supposed to attach a one-page “proposed order” to the motion, as typically required by court rules.
What the lawyers attached instead of the proposed order was a page of confidential law-firm notes. Those notes refer to a search warrant affidavit that apparently remains under seal in the case, and they appear to state that: (1) The same confidential source who provided information about certain Manafort transactions to Mueller, for use in the search warrant, also provided that information to the AP, and (2) that source was someone inside Manafort’s company.
Today, the lawyers have filed a motion to “amend” the earlier motion, to submit the proposed order and remove their confidential memo from the public record.
Yeah, that’ll definitely make the whole thing go away, just like it never happened. Maybe they should have Sen. Johnson say it was a joke just to be sure.
