I disagree with the comment “given a chance THEY would do it.” The reason I disagree is given a chance THEY do it.
Keeping eligible people from voting is as defined by some state statutes “voter fraud”.
I have no other way to parse this than to say that there are a shit load of monumentally stupid republicans. Small ‘r’ intentional.
What I think is a real hoot is that this country managed to hold Presidential elections during the Civil War and two World Wars without resorting to any of the measures they think are necessary to avoid fraud. I am also aware that until 1965, black folks were very effectively kept from voting at all in the states of the former (defeated) Confederacy.
Just to be clear, I’m not necessarily advocating National ID. I’m just pointing out how the voter ID supporters are simply advocates for a different type of fraud – voter suppression.
I favor things like automatic registration, and other efforts to expand access to the polls.
