Discussion: Maine Gov. LePage: If We Can't Build A Big Enough Fence, Let's Look At China

Ah, the Tea Party, giving a national voice to the millions of fat business dudes who sit down next to you in bars or on airplanes and start bending your ear about how easy other people’s problems would be to solve if only they’d listen to the fat business dude.

I read the original article, and I was struck by the Gov. blaming low-wage jobs on “energy prices”. In the same article, it discusses a call-center that is having problems hiring enough “qualified” people for jobs paying $8/hr.

It seems to me, that if they’re having problems hiring “qualified” people, perhaps they should raise the pay that they are offering? No, of course not. The problem couldn’t possibly be that there are tons of “qualified” people around who won’t work for them for such low pay. Gotta be electricity costs. Yeah.

Every culture has at least ONE example of scary food.

I think it helps to ask them to repeat that. Then just let it run on TV.

Poutine is not NEARLY as vile as lutefisk, the Food Terror of My Youth.

I don’t care what anybody says.

I can forgive the voters of ME for falling for this lunatic’s homespun BS once, but twice? C’mon people! The polling average shows his support still at over 40%!!! Who are those people? And why are there so many of them left at this point?

Exactly.

The Great Wall didn’t prevent the Manchu invasions, which began around 1600, and were finally able to cross the Great Wall en masse in 1644, causing the fall of the Ming Dynasty. Before this time, the Manchus had crossed the Great Wall multiple times to raid, but this time it was for conquest.

Of course even casting the issue as one of “invasion” is seriously out of whack. Particularly since their has been a net negative influx of undocumented immigrants from our southern border. And the most recent “crisis” was one of a suddenly large influx of unaccompanied minors seeking refugee status.

Furthermore, 2006 a study by the Texas State Comptroller (that bastion of well known liberalism) estimated that the 1.4 million undocumented immigrants in Texas alone added almost $18 billion to the state’s economic output, and more than paid for the $1.2 billion in state services they used by generating $1.6 billion in new state revenues.

Undocumented immigrants contribute to our economy as workers, taxpayers, and consumers. They account for 5 percent of the total U.S. labor force, and at least a quarter of the workers in industries like construction, agriculture, groundskeeping, meat processing, and textile production.

All undocumented immigrants pay sales taxes (if they are in any of the 45 states with sales taxes) and property taxes, and—contrary to popular belief—most pay federal and state income taxes as well, even though they’re not eligible for Social Security, Medicare, or the many other programs their tax dollars help fund. Undocumented immigrants also spend billions of dollars each year, which supports our economy and helps create new jobs.

In addition, Stephen Goss, chief actuary for the Social Security Administration, stated that undocumented workers contribute about $15 billion a year to Social Security through payroll taxes. They only take out $1 billion (very few undocumented workers are eligible to receive benefits). Over the years, undocumented workers have contributed up to $300 billion, or nearly 10 percent, of the $2.7 trillion Social Security Trust Fund.

All that said, of course it simply boils down to the reality that LePage is simply a flaming idiot, who is more reactionary and wrong on the issue than even the patron saint of conservatism, Ronald Reagan, or even either Bush administrations:

“Rather than talking about putting up a fence, why don’t we work out some recognition of our mutual problems and make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit, and then while they’re working and earning here they pay taxes here. And when they want to go, they can go back and can cross. Open the border both ways.” — Ronald Reagan

“We are doing two things, we are making a whole society of decent, honorable, family-loving people that are in violation of the law. And secondly, we are exacerbating relations with Mexico. The answer to your question is much more fundamental than whether they attend Houston’s schools it seems to me. I don’t want to see a whole, if they are living here, I don’t want to see a whole thing of 6 and 8 year old kids be made totally uneducated and made to feel they are less for living outside the law. Let’s address ourselves to the fundamentals. These are GOOD people, strong people, part of my family is a Mexican.” — George H.W. Bush

It’s also worth noting that the Obama Administration has more diligently enforced our immigration and refugee laws than any President ever.

Why not the “Maginot Line” as that worked so well too?
This just exposes the “bunker” mentality of the typical “Raging American Dumb-Fuck” otherwise known as a “Tea-Bagger”.

Governor Ricky has determined that ISIS will be invading Texas through the porous Mexican border ("I think it’s a very real possibility that they may have already used that.") so he and LePage can join together in throwing up walls and fences. But they’d need to get it done before they leave office because sane people will take office after them.

That’s not even the best food to come out of Quebec.

Three words: Montreal Smoked Meat. It’s basically a smoked brisket, but not stringy beef and incredibly tender and juicy. Served on rye with brown mustard and as many veggies as you care to have. Gorgeous stuff if you are a carnivore.

Har Har. The smart Mongols went around it.

Oh yeah. I can eat a pile of their bagels too.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Is he suggesting that undocumented border crossers be deported to China?

As long as no one tells the folks in Mexico and Central America about ladders, this sounds like a workable plan.

So ix-nay on the adders-lay, got it?

There’s an Italian dried codfish dish called baccala, similar to lutefisk minus the lye which the family would try to foist on me. Yuck.

Nothing is as vile as lutefisk. Not haggis, not tripe. Nothing!

You mean the scanner thngies can’t tell if the buyer is undocumented so it charges no taxes???

/S/S/S.

If only the entire world would go back to the technology and know how during that period. How many international treaties would the good Gov. like to destroy?

Love a duck - do people take this guy seriously?

He found and hired a qualified assistant and paid her $8 an hour. Oh, wait, he hired his daughter and paid her over $40,000 to do nothing at tax payer expense… But she was qualified, right?

I think if DeCoster Egg Farm ran into the same problem under LePage’s gubenatorialship as they did prior LePage would have blamed the “illegals” for the raw sewage and had them all deported, before they could cash their paychecks…
