Discussion: Maddow Fillets Bill O'Reilly's Tale Of Witnessing JFK Figure's Suicide (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #233988

This is what Rachel does best, kind of investigative reporting but a quick hit, and if Ailes ignores O’Reilly’s outright lies, we’ll know once again the fix is again.

There is clearly NOTHING bill O’ could do that would cause Fox to dump him:

Not costing them millions to settle a sexual harassment suit
Not having him repeatedly lie about being on the scene and in the center of the action at major news events.
Not claiming to have won a Peabody/Polk/Polk award to a show I left two years earlier.

But clearly there is ONE thing that would see him dumped…

If his ratings tanked.

And for Bill’s audience, none of the above stuff matters. To them it is all just part of the usual smear attempts by the liberal media and it plays right into his narrative.

Fox and Bill will ride this one out…

Count on it.

You’re right. To Fox if’s all about the ratings and his loyalist would never believe it, They will blame the liberal media for trying to smear him. He’s got a win win situation

Mind like a tin foil trap…

Billow will be fine. The difference between him and Brian Williams is that Williams worked for a legitimate news organization, at least one that tries to maintain a semblance of journalistic integrity. And Billow, of course, works for Fox.

Fox News is the WWE of the journalism world–their anchors are “entertainers” and their news is…well…not.

Early in life I have noticed that no event is ever correctly reported in a newspaper, but in Spain, for the first time, I saw newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. … This kind of thing is frightening to me, because it often gives me the feeling that the very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world.

What neither Maddow nor O’Reilly want to address is the simple truth that Cable News is a dying business. While Maddow is doing a better job at attracting younger viewers than O’Reilly, neither is doing all that well. The reason is simple and it is the same reason for the decline of newspapers. More and more people are getting their news from the internet. The number of people, generally older people, willing to spend time watching Cable News is in a terminal decline.

While a love a good fillet, numerous people beat her to this one. This was more like re-heating a fillet in the microwave.

None of this matters…O’Reilly will continue on Fox news and this will die down. They clearly don’t care about any journalistic rules, even basic ones like telling the truth. so it is important for the rest of us to remember that, and to remind folks about this very issue when they send up Fox News links

Ratings will build this to the point of all the kings horses and all the kings men,Bill:

“A lie is an intentionally false statement to a person or group made by another person or group who knows it is not wholly the truth.[1] The practice of communicating lies is called lying, and a person who communicates a lie may be termed a liar.
Lies may be employed to serve a variety of instrumental, interpersonal,
or psychological functions for the individuals who use them. Generally,
the term “lie” carries a negative connotation, and depending on the
context a person who communicates a lie may be subject to social, legal,
religious, or criminal sanctions. In certain situations, however lying
is permitted, expected, or even encouraged. Because believing and acting
on false information can have serious consequences, scientists and
others have attempted to develop methods for distinguishing lies from
true statements.”

It’s a summary for those folks who don’t get all their news from the Internets. Rachel waits until her stories are complete and as factual as possible. If it’s breaking news, great. But they present it as such.

I could look myself, but I will ask you: Is Bill O’Reilly’s picture next to the definition?

Very true. O’Reilly’s whole schtick is that he bloviates, exaggerates and embellishes news developments with bigotry and hatred. His show is about exactly what the title implies Talking points: it has nothing to do with journalism. If Fox was going to punish him, they had ample opportunity to do so when he legitimized branding George Tiller a baby killer for years and laying the groundwork før his ultimate murder. Frankly I can’t stand looking at the guy. He turns my stomach.

Perhaps Brian Williams ought to move over to Fox News. They seem to value incredibility over credibility.

Actually, Al Franken had them all beat–Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them.

I wonder if Billo experienced any pain as a result of Rachel disemboweling him like that?

"Bill O’Reilly’s false claim that he witnessed the brutal 1980 murders
of four American women in El Salvador – and his excuse, after his lie
was exposed, that he meant he saw photos of their bodies – is drawing
harsh criticism from journalists who covered the story and lawyers who
worked with the nuns’ families to bring justice in the case.
O’Reilly has recently faced scrutiny for a series of fabrications he
has told over the years about his reporting career. Last week, Media Matters reported that
O’Reilly had repeatedly suggested he saw nuns murdered in El Salvador
while reporting for CBS News, despite the fact that the incident in
question occurred before he arrived in the country. O’Reilly told his
radio audience in 2005 that he’d “seen guys gun down nuns in El
Salvador.” More recently, he said on his Fox News program, “I was in El
Salvador and I saw nuns get shot in the back of the head.”
