Discussion: 'Lucky One' In Oregon Shooting Provides Details Of Massacre

Discussion for article #241627

How horrible. How does one not be scarred for life after that?

That is Mathew Downing in the plaid shirt and his pain is visible. I hope there are people who care very much about him and are there for him with more than thoughts and prayers…

Horrifying.

Oh, and Ben Carson is an odious fucking moron for even suggesting any victim should’ve rushed the shooter.

Thank you very much for telling us, we all know TPM is too lazy to actually caption photos. How cutting edge of them.

Carson was claming hero status which to me is waaay beyond reprehensible.

He harvests election points from ongoing massacres.

Its an emerging trend for him. First he would be the hero in Oregon, climbing on the back of the fallen and bereaved to claim such status. Then he was the hero in a fictitious robbery story that keeps morphing every hour (now it wasn’t the police who chased down and caught the armed robber…it was rest of the patrons in the Popeye’s, apparently inspired by Carson’s heroism in telling him to shoot someone else?). And finally, he is the hero storming Normandy…again climbing over the bodies of the fallen, in his D-Day like campaign.

The common theme in all of these stories is…Carson is delusional, in the bad mental health way.

and he can buy guns.

Probably more importantly, he can and has hired security with guns.

What was everyone doing while the shooter was reloading?

Not to go Ben Carson on anyone but I am interested because capping the number of cartridges might be a way to provide such an opportunity.

I long for the day when stories like this appear less than once a year instead of a more than once a week.

That’s the whole counterpoint to Ben Carson’s idiocy: because the NRA & ammosexuals have blocked sensible regulations, the “if we all rush him, he can’t get everyone” is just nonsense… with today’s ammo clips, shooters can actually take everyone out.

Visiting the Normandy beaches was very emotional for me. That Carson would even begin to conflate himself with those men…well, … I lack the vocabulary. If he had a lick of sense he’d campaign from what he knows best: medicine, the ACA and surgery. But no, he has to launch out into the beyond crazy of derp. And nobody will really take him to task. He needs to be cut off at the knees like Joe McCarthy was or Lloyd Bentsen did Dan Quayle in a debate… “I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. You sir are no Jack Kennedy”
Carson says completely unsubstantiated and outrageous shit and his followers eat it up. It’s depressing that this is the best of what the GOP has. There’s no chance for an honest debate of real issues. The man’s a mental defective.

Probably freaking out in various stages of panic and shock. Or bleeding out on the floor.

I am really disturbed by the number of posts I read on liberal blogs that are questioning the victims in this.

I believe it’s called shock and fear. (It’s not a Hollywood movie shootout, you know, like when people and safety prep for hours on end, stage it all, and then use fake blood.)

Well said, lgb.

You don’t need the qualifier…Ben Carson is an odious fucking moron, period-full-stop.

Thanks NRA for being an American terrorist organization.

He had five pistols with him (four more at home) in addition to a rifle. So even while reloading, he probably had at least 30 more rounds ready to go.

I have not read any accounts of whether those other pistols were visible, in holsters or his waistband; or in his backpack, whether that was open or closed.

But the NRA-approved mass shooting survival courses we should start teaching our kids in kindergarten should emphasis this fact: that if you happen to overcome your shock or fear, and are not bleeding profusely or have a leg or two shattered by gunfire; then these kinds of 2nd Amendment advocates tend to have more guns than they need, and you must factor that in before deciding to rush them.
