Cue the Borg proclaiming how women’s rights ought to be subservient to having a Democrat in power.
"But I will tell you, here in Louisiana, I speak and meet with Democrats who are pro-life every single day.”
No, they are not pro-life. They are pro-slavery.
Dear Dems - stop running Republicans as Democrats. Cf. Northam (VA).
That’s what my Catholic Christian faith requires
YOUR Catholic faith, you fucking self-absorbed fuckstick. Not EVERYONE ELSE’S.
This is an embarrassment coming from any PUBLIC official, worse when coming from a Democrat.
John Kasich is a Roman Catholic and he vetoed Ohio’s bill.
Nigh is the time for all good people to sign an abortion bill terminating the life of the Guardians Of (pick one or more) Predators / Pedophiles / Plutocrats / Philistines / Plunderers / Polymorphs.

Man, the south had a good thing going for it finally and then they blew it up
“That’s what my Catholic Christian faith requires.”
So we can look forward to banning condoms, state-sponsored exorcisms, and public-school confessionals?
Indeed.
Considering that the last two Louisiana Wrestlemanias are three to four years apart, now would be a great time for Vince McMahon to set up WWE Studios near Baton Rouge.
“That’s what my Catholic Christian faith ambition, avarice and re-election prospects require.”
FIFY, asshole.
And to just add the cynical cherry on top: he knows this is unconstitutional, but is willing to risk it being upheld and/or causing an overturn of Roe v. Wade on the theory that he’s doing the safest thing here for HIMSELF. If this gets shot down then he can go home and wipe his sweating brow and think to himself “no harm, no foul.” If it doesn’t, he’s got a major victory for the religious right that he gets to crow about.
BTW, yes, you can very much expect some bullshit from the Fascist Five about there appearing to be a sea change in the country’s thinking on abortion rights based on “all this new activity and legislation” even though we all know nothing has changed in terms of the country’s thinking on abortion rights other than the composition of the SCOTUS.
only a genuine fool calls himself a ‘catholic christian’ - the church has gotten weirder and weirder since I left it
As I said the other day, Thomas has been married twice and has one child from his first marriage. Sure, it’s possible he and Ginni can’t conceive. It’s also possible that he and his first wife were only able to get pregnant once. However, it’s a lot more likely that they used birth control. He really is a “pull up the ladder behind him” asshole.
The most effective way for religion to be denigrated is to have it supported by the state and vice versa. So go ahead. Religiosity is declining in the US and this shit will only serve to accelerate the losses.
Oh, here’s a pretty howdy do.
What are they smoking at the NYT?
I personally think this is wrongheaded, all of these laws are meant to impose evangelical religious dogma onto the nation.
However, I see the politics of it…he likely felt that he had to sign this to have a chance at winning the election this fall, as LA is really conservative and not signing it would drive the rabid conservatives to vote him out. And, everyone expects these laws to fail in court, and the SC not to make the jump to overturning Roe instead of chipping away until it’s effectively dead. Looked at that way, it makes sense to go along, especially since he likely would have been overridden if he vetoed it. So, he’s basically kicking the can down the road so he wins the election…no surprise, and with the benefit that if he wins LA can’t be gerrymandered away as he will be there to keep the Republicans from going crazy (I know, I’m presuming here).
I still would rather that he not do this, it gives the whole issue some non-partisan cover. It’s not as damaging as it seems at first glance though, no more than the rest of these bills, and if he holds office and keeps LA from going completely crazy then it may be worth it. We’ll be far better off when we get past this cycle of allowing religious nuts to force policy on us, but that’s a completely different issue.
Big tent.
Remember this whenever you might think it is a good idea for ex-Repubs to join the Democratic Party.
And thank you, Rev. Jack Danforth, for shoving him onto the Supreme Court.
