Discussion: Longtime NYT Publisher Sulzberger Jr. Announces He Will Pass Job To His Son

Ironically, though Trump prefers to deride the New York Times as “failing,” the company experienced record subscription growth in the months after his election.

If I were doing PR for Esme, I’d name these perfect little rejoinders at the end of stories Cribb Notes.

OT, but just in case you were interested in understanding why Faux News is so deeply concerned with bringing the NFL to heel and attacking ESPN and its personalities:

Nepotism is a sight to see.

Battling with existential questions today. Is it wrong that I have a list of people I hope get accused of sexual harassment/assault and that Todd Starnes is at the top of it?

And that I really really hope it’s a man who accuses him? Ooooh, and that it happened in a Chik-Fil-A bathroom?

I’m sure the *President will be quick to criticize it.

The Ochs/Sulzberger family has owned and published the NYT since 1894.

This is a family business, and the succession is in keeping with the family’s history and plans for the future.

OT … guess this was a not so well kept secret (though secret to me) - explains why Ryan is pushing so hard for his wreaking his Ayn Randian vision of the US - timing. Last big act - and perhaps expecting a Kochian payout as a start for his life after being a pol?

Cribb Notes. Perfect. And Esme’s been on quite a roll as of late.

Keep it up @emquiry (Twitter).

Hope you saw Josh’s blog about rAyn urging women to have more babies in order to save the social safety net. He must have just put down his copy of The Handmaid’s Tale.

As an aside, I once delivered paper to the Hallmark Production Center (printing plant) in Topeka, Kansas. On the driver’s entrance was a big sign that said “Cursing Will Not Be Tolerated At This Facility. Any person using foul language on these premises will be immediately removed and banned for life. NO EXCEPTIONS!

I asked a line driver who regularly delivered there if it was serious. “Serious as a heart attack,” he said. “They’re fucking Nazis.”

He then told me about one of their drivers who had slipped and fell on the ice when he got out of his truck. He made the fateful mistake of relating the story to the receiver, remarking “Damn, that kind of hurt.” They refused delivery, told him to leave and banned him for life.

I hadn’t previously associated Hallmark with Nazism. How naive of me.

Somewhat OT, but I have always felt that it is fucking weird to give a son the father’s first name, no matter how much history is behind it. Use the father’s name as a middle name if you want. Give the child a name of a relative other than a parent if you want. A kid deserves to have their own name in their household.

Maybe it’s just me.

I read that about 20 minutes before I saw the Politico piece. Absolutely cringe worthy. Especially when they are pushing the abomination that is the tax bill (oh - and tweeking it to be worse) - as a gift to donors that doubles as an excuse to gut the safety nets.

Agreed. But If you’re going to do something like that, be committed.

Shit, I’d be fired before I filled out the paperwork.

Winner of the internet.

Appreciate the lecture.

I do, indeed. Doesn’t make it a good idea, though.
