Oh, SNAP!
Yes, thatâs exactly why she was not being âracistâ, she is just âcluelessâ. Not much different than most anchors, but you can clearly see from the look on her face she had no idea what the word meant, and in all fairness the term âjigâ is from dance (though she likely does not know that either). This story is more funny than anything else, obviously Lady Gagaâs music and the Sound of Music are not âblackâ.
Reminds of a lesson where the thesaurus is introduced to second gradersâŚ
WhaâŚ? I didnât know the meaning of the racist word I was using?
Are you shitting me?
Yeah, I canât imagine her using it in front of an African American if she did know what it meant. The mind blowing ignorance of FOX tarts amazes me.
âWhat? Whatâs the matter? Iâve heard that word said around my house since I was a little girl, I didnât know it was offensive.â
- is probably the real background on the matter.
I only heard it used by Archie Bunker (the main character on the 1970s sitcom âAll in the Family.â)
I should have finished that by saying âIf that is what happened,â or "If she truly was ignorant of the wordâs true meaning. I ran into a situation in the past where I used a racially insensitive term that I was ignorant about, but I had the courage to apologize sincerely and vow not to use said word again. It does happen.
âI routinely make sounds with my mouth, not knowing in advance if they are even words.â
Interesting defense.
I barely remember that show, so I may have heard it, but never added it to my lexicon.
And at Thanksgiving dinner her Crazy Uncle talks about wetbacks.
She didnât know!!! And, she has been, what, running around for years calling people or things that!!! And, she didnât know!!! She should be fired for utter stupidity. But, then again it is Fox!!!
Wow. Way to take the least charitable interpretation and run with it. What was he supposed to do, stop the newscast to give everyone a lecture on racial sensitivity? This is his cohost and hopefully they have a strong enough working relationship that:
- He knew this was ignorance and not bigotry.
- He didnât want to humiliate her any more than he knew she already would be.
Your comment is far more bigoted than anything this ânewscasterâ said. So what does that make you?
Actually Cleavon Little used it on that show, one of the funniest episodes ever, with Demond Wilson before he got the Sanford and Son gig.
Hereâs the whole show. Classic, great writing and acting, and done live before a studio audience. Little discusses the âjigabooâ situation at the 14:00 mark.
Good lesson on guns too.
Imagine having to smile and say the right thing at all times even when presented with bizarro. But a thread devoted to Gagaâs outfits would fly.
Hah. I missed that. I was flipping back and forth from Downton Abbey for the most part. The only two movies I saw in the top running this year was âBirdmanâ and âThe Grand Budapest Hotelâ. Typically, I see most of them by the time the Academy Awards happenâŚbut its been so frickin coldâŚIâm generally stuck at home in front of my space heater. I did see best song from âSelmaâ performed. Definitely, the clear winner.
You had to go there. Must make your mama proud.
Well, she might also be a racist, but I can believe she picked up the word not knowing exactly what it meant. But sheesh, Gaga did a Sound of Music medley, sung perfectly â and beautifully â straight. So what the fk was she even talking about?
